We just celebrated a special family birthday at Tango Bistro and couldn't have been more pleased. All the food was delicious and the service couldn't have been more friendly and efficient. They really went out of their way to ensure that the evening was perfect....More

I have eaten here over several times over the years when visiting Calgary. It's a family favourite and has never disapointed. Great steaks, ribs etc and a bonus are the included soup and excellent salad bar. Perfect steakhouse with good alternatives for fish eaters

Smuggler's Inn has such a warm and hospitable atmosphere, fabulous food, and great servers. On July 8th we took the opportunity to visit sister restaurant Bolero's (upstairs) for a quiet, special dinner. I had heard all about the interesting concept of how the meats are...More

I hadn't been here in years, and we just went with a big group. It was expensive, and the food was only average. I didn't do the salad bar, but everyone enjoyed that. My chicken was so dried out, the sauce was plain, small portions....More

I have been coming to this restaurant over the years since it opened in 1973. This last visit I noticed that things have definitely slipped. Quantity over quality seems to be their mo now. I had the prime rib as usual, 10 oz portion as...More

Smugglers Inn has been around forever, and hasn't lost a step. Their specialty is Prime Rib, and it was perfect; tender, well seasoned, and the Au Jus had a hint of red wine. The salad bar was improved over what I remember from the past,...More

I normally don't eat prime rib. I love a medium rare steak but all that pink exterior on prime rib just doesn't work for me. At Smugglers I order the prime rib Cajun blackened and it is to die for! Can't say enough great things...More

Haven't been to a steakhouse in a long time but when in Calgary one must have a great steak. Classic style place with a nice salad bar. Ordered the prime rib which was done just as I asked. Probably will get the smaller cut next...More

The service was excellent and if it wasn't for him, I would have given the place an even poorer review. We had the salad bar. What a disappointment. The chicken soup was very good and that's about it, unfortunately. I remember when alot of preparation...More

Wednesday for lunch is probably fine but friday may be another story. Ask for a table closer to the buffet when you are in prehaps too.

Smuggler's Inn originally began in 1967 as Bar X Steakhouse, an American company. The current owner, Frank Krowicki, bought out his partners and went to work developing a brand new concept to Calgary. His vision included a mix of casual, late night fine dining and live piano bar. Over the years, the building expanded around Smuggler's Inn, with the addition of Winelite dining room on the west side, and Backstreet lounge and dining room on the north side. As the dining scene in Calgary began to change, Frank too saw a need to change and adapt. The first endeavour was the conversion of Backstreet lounge to Open Sesame in 2000. Open Sesame has been serving fresh, Pan Asian cuisine to happy customers ever since. The conversion of Backstreet dining room to Bolero was complete in 2007. As Calgary's first Brazilian style steakhouse, Bolero continues to satisfy meat lovers with its unique and interactive style of dining. Our latest addition is Tango Bistro, on the west side of the building, which once was Winelite dining room. At Tango Bistro, we bring together delicious, hand crafted small plates and fantastic wine to create a casual atmosphere for all to enjoy. In May 2013, Smuggler's Inn celebrated 40 years of serving mouth-watering Alberta prime rib and steaks alongside many original items, which have made us famous around the world. Four restaurants under one roof keeps us busy, but we wouldn't have it any other way. And the rest, as they say, is history!
