I went in for a 2 or 3 course dinner - wound up having 4 courses and a portwine + tea. Very enjoyable atmosphere, food, people and service! The best part of dinner was the wine pairings - I strongly suggest to ask for the...wine pairing by the local sommelier for every course! The service is very fine-dining, however relaxed in a down-to-earth manne at the same time. Some people might expect a bit "higher standard" or "nose-to-the-ceiling" type of service, however they have a smooth balance there. I had salmon as first course - it was very well cured and the wasabi foam was balanced as well. Second course was lobster biscue - a bit stacked by heavy things, however delicate. The wine however elevated the experience. Third course for me was bison sirloin - a new experience for me the bison. Next to scale from farm animals to game, I found a third axis of meats flavour. The dessert - Nanaimo bar - was a great combination of flavours, airily crispy and all the flavours complemented each-other well. The wine list is amazing and the whiskey list is not shy either. Additionally to that they are probably able to make any classical (or probably also non-classical) cocktail you would like. I suggest going and taking the full experience ;). I might do it again if I have time!More

My wife and I didn't stay at the Hotel but we did enjoy a fabulous dining experience in the restaurant. The hotel was decked out with festive season decorations. The décor is very warm and cozy and had an alpine chalet feeling to it. The...staff were extremely friendly and very welcoming. We were even luck enough to be give a tour of the wine cellars which hold an impressive 22,000 bottles. We were greeted with a pianist playing Christmas melodies as we settled into the bar for some pre dinner drinks. Meni mixed us some interesting cocktails before we were shown to our table for dinner. Dining in this restaurant was definitely on of the culinary highlights of our trip to Canada. Reservations are an absolute must but definitely worth planning ahead. Thanks to Will and the other staff for a fabulous night.More

The dining room atmosphere was very nice and the service was very good also. The food was very good, not excellent, very good but the prices for the food were ridiculous. $30 for one medium size scallop, $24 for a small salad with emphasis on...small (a few bites) and then they charged $140 for elk tenderloin which ended up being a mistake on the bill. They had to correct the bill but it did not change much. I travel frequently throughout Canada and the world and dine at very expensive restaurants and am more than willing to pay more money for good food but this was outright ridiculous. A very nice place, good service but definitely not worth the money and came up short! Over charging for tine portions and then making a mistake on the check by several hundred dollars is not acceptable.More

I would like to give this a 5/5, however, my hold up with that is the transparency of the available menu. I had read a TA posting while researching Banff NP that this would be a go to for a spectacular meal and that a...reservation would likely be needed in advance. After checking the website out (not thoroughly enough I guess), it looked quaint and cozy for sure. I thought I made a reservation in the lounge with a more conservative price point. When I received my confirmation text for the dining room, I called to confirm. I was told the lounge does not take reservations and did not serve dinner, only the dining room. Since staying in the Village of Lake Louise, and limited on any other options at that time of day, I kept the reservation. Unbeknownst to us, we were only able to order from the pre priced four course menu for $149 per person. After the day we had, the miles hiked and the thought of driving to Banff proper for a meal, we stayed- only to split the meal between the two of us. Although I consider myself a foodie, and THOROUGHLY appreciated the fine food here, I cannot justify such a price for a meal. I am not sure how I missed this detail in my research, but clearly I did. I am not sure I could eat here again at this price- even if I won the lottery. Definitely out of my league.More

Let me start by saying that almost everything in this neck of the woods is very expensive. That's all I'll say about that. I had the fixed price four course menu and my wife was able to order a la carte because we were guests...at the hotel. The Post Hotel Dining Room was an overall excellent dining "experience." My praise has to begin with our waiter- Sylvan. He was a consummate professional who was dignified without being the least bit stuffy. We had genuine and enjoyable conversations with him and never felt rushed. The wine steward (whose name I can't recall) was also very friendly and helped us choose a good bottle of wine based on our tastes and budget. The dining room itself was quite nice and the food was fresh, beautifully cooked and well presented. In fact, the Alberta beef tenderloin that was my main course was one of the best I have ever had. I also had the Atlantic Lobster roll and the pan seared halibut- both were delicious. My wife enjoyed her Fogo Island cod very much, though she wasn't a huge fan of the cherry blossom Sabayon. I have no qualms about rating our overall experience as 5 star and it was the best meal we had on our Canadian Rockies vacation.More

We were staying at the Post Hotel and had dinner here. First complaint is that when we made our rez (for 4 people), we were not told that the ONLY dining option was the 4-course fixed price menu. But, after looking at the menu, we...decided to stay. We were seated promptly for our 8:00PM reservation. But it was downhill from there. We waited a full 10 minutes before someone came to take our drink order and then it was another [about] 7 minutes before the drinks were served. Which meant we were sitting there for a full 17 minutes with no water, no bread, no drinks...nothing. In fact, when the server came to take our drink order, she brought out a plate of some kind of fancy butter. We specifically asked if bread would be brought. But nothing. Even when they brought the drinks and we AGAIN asked for some bread, it took quite a while to be brought over. This is inexcusable. Had the restaurant been full, it may have been somewhat understandable. But there were only a few full tables. Our server knew everything on the menu but seemed more intent on impressing us with her knowledge of the dishes than what we were actually interested in. To be clear, the menu choices and the food was absolutely delicious. But considering it was a relatively limited menu (5 or 6 choices each for the appetizer, first and second courses) it should not have taken as long as it did. We sat down at 8:00PM and did not finish with dessert until just after 10:00PM!!! BTW - it wasn't as if we could ask for faster service since it seemed Bottom line: Food was delicious but overshadowed by the ridiculously slow service. For the prices we paid (at the hotel and for the meal) we expected much better. Very disappointing.More

My wife and I went to the Post Hotel for dinner. The last time we were was 2019 before COVID. It looked pretty much the same. Our waiter said he had worked for years. The meal started with warm bread and butter flavored with maple...and bourbon which as tasty. I had the beef filet and my wife had the duck. Both were excellent. I asked for my veggies to be well done and they were. I enjoyed the veal -whiskey jus for the beef. We were glad we saved room for dessert. I had the plum cobbler with cherry sorbet and my wife had the Pavlova-Roasted Stone fruits, Mascarpone ice cream, and passion fruit gel. We both shared the deserts and enjoyed each of them. Our waiter was excellent as our requests were taken care of and he answered our questions about the meal preparation.More

Fancy dining room and impeccable service but I just wasn't too impressed with the food. Can't explain it but the food just didn't seem to have a coherent feel to it. For instance, the Atlantic lobster roll seemed out of place on the menu and...while very fancy in presentation was just good not excellent for such an upscale restaurant. The salmon was not very flavorful and my husband and son were not that impressed with their chosen entrees either. I was surprised by the experience given all the rave reviews. Great wait staff though. Well trained.More

We went on the night of Aug 10 , 2023.i ordered the food cod . It was terrible , rubbery texture ,fishy smell . I knew this wasn't fresh fish although the manager tried to tell me it came in fresh from city fish ....Overall service was very slow . For desert I ordered the rhubarb ginger cake . It was ridiculously small for $25.00 I would say my piece was 3.5 inches long by .75 inches wide by .75 inches high , joke .I sent it back . Butter leaf salad was a couple of pieces of butter lettuce with a milk like thin dressing , terrible . $24.00 for this . The portions at this restaurant are very small and poor value for the prices they are charging , for 2 people it's like $300.00 cdn plus ,,don't waste your money .I would not go backMore

Wow! Service was top notch. Best we’ve ever had - anywhere. Attentive and delightful waiter, sommeliers, and staff. Our dishes were fabulous - every one of them. Complex and beautifully plated. We were celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary and had our teenagers with us. Everyone...was made to feel special. Worth the splurge. Will return on our next visit to Lake Louise. A rare gem.More

We were not guests at the hotel but made reservations for the main dining room on open table. The hostess was rude and seated us in a separate room and insisted our reservations were at the fondue restaurant, which was not as nice as main...dining room. We challenged her and threatened to leave unless she seated us where we had reservations. Luckily she did. Would not recommend. Food was overrated and most of the wait staff was pretentious!More

Easily our best meal on a week's tour in the Rockies. Expensive but very good food. Great wine list. Excellent service. Rustic log cabin style decor. If you're looking for very fine dining in Lake Louise then this is it. Quiet but busy atmosphere. I...would definitely return.More

From the moment we sat down service was perfect. The appetizers we had, a mini lobster roll and asparagus risotto were presented beautifully and excellent. The cod and salmon both were tasty and presented so lovely. Wine list here is amazing and we had a...great wine. We asked for a tour of the wine cellar which was great fun. Top notch for sure.More

I want to mention first that we knew we were kind of "stuck" in Lake Louise desperate for dinner before a further drive to our next destination. So we expected a dinner in this area would be expensive but this place was SUPER expensive (even...more than a couple of places we looked at the Fairmount Chateau right on the lake and of which was impossible to get into any of their 5 restaurants). That being said, the food simply was not worth the price. We arrived to find two fixed course menus but were told we could ala cart however the menu had no prices on it except for the fixed ($145 or $165 per person depending on which one you choose. Not including alcohol, of course) We did order ala cart because we didn't want that much food or take a long time. We had a very small salad each, one beer, one wine and an entrée each. It came to $252 before tip. Each entrée was $60. When an entrée is that much I expect the best of the best. My husband had the Bison steak and he thought it was great. I had the halibut with white asparagus, sea asparagus that tasted like seaweed and a watered down pea type liquid. The halibut was BORING. I had a halibut in Jasper for $16.00 that was so much better. The service was great, attentive, etc, but I wouldn't go back there. Otherwise the hotel itself looked very sweet and old fashioned in a good way.More
