Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have not been so disappointed in a restaurant as we were at Cafe Monet. Our server had not been trained in the basic rules of customer service. She spilled a cup of coffee on our table, and barely dried the table with one paper...napkin . We had to remove the placemats and clean up her mess ourselves. Our breakfast took way long to arrive, and the server didn't even bring us silverware nor ask if we wanted a refill of coffee. The piano player was playing so loud, we could barely hear ourselves speak and we were not even close to him. The breakfast food was just okay, but we waited so long for our server to return, I had to get up from the table and search for her and found her looking at her phone. When I asked her to bring our check, she handed it to my girlfriend instead of to me and didn't even look at me. We went to this restaurant because it was highly recommended, and our experience was not terrible, but it was certainly not pleasant and we will not be returning. I suggest that the manager(s) better retrain their staff if they want return customers.More

The server was very nice. The live piano was pleasant. The food was not good. I ordered the omelette with spinach and ham. It was terrible. The egg was rubbery and it had no flavor. The americano was watery.

Very pretty restaurant and good service. Had potato enchiladas , came with salad and beans. Partner had Baja tacos. Both were really good, and a little bit different. The salad was the best I’ve had here. The picante salsa was so hot and flavorful that...we got some to go. YummyMore

The owners set up an outside table on a platform dangerously leading to a downstairs bakery. No black and yellow stripes on the floor to give a warning - Danger! I was rolling down those stairs in a chair placed inches away from the stairway.... When the chair stopped I hit my head in the wall. If the owners are insensitive about their customers safety, I wonder what’s in the food? . Customers BEWARE .. no safety at this place! MarilynMore

The art images and music n this restaurant take you to another place altogether. We stumbled into this restaurant after shopping without a plan to come here. I had lasagna and my spouse had fish tacos--both were delicious! The main picture for this restaurant is...a hamburger fr some reason but their food is far beyond hamburgers. Highly recommended for lunch!More

We a couple in our 40s and we didn't have electricity at home today, so we thought why not visit Cafe Monet? Good food, good service and interesting decor. I would recommend to avoid because after spending 2 hours and 800 pesos, the owner told...his waiter to ask us to leave because we were not eating enough and this is not an internet cafe. There was only one other table occupied in the place. How rude is that? I left my half finished rum and we left. Waiter was apologetic. Our only explanation is that we both were on our laptops and the owner didn't like that--he is old and obviously a curmudgeon who does not understand the modern world. So be prepared to order half the menu if you want to stay more than 2 hours.. So we went from there to the Rosewood rooftop and are enjoying that very much as I writ this. Thank you for kicking us out!More

Having visited Cafe Monet over the past several years, we had come to enjoy the food, atmosphere, service, etc. This year however, they have declined to the point that we will not return. Food was atrocious! Omelette with practically raw bacon and no cheese, beans...so thin you couldn't pick them up with a fork, Premium bacon bloody Mary ordered before the meal served after the meal (without bacon or ICE) Chilaquiles served without the chicken.....I could go on but, oh yeah, we were the only two people in the restaurant.More

I rarely write a review if a restaurant is bad. However, this place may be a health problem. I must admit that we made a terrible mistake not looking at the Tripadvisor reviews before selecting this place for dinner. The previous 6 reviews going back...to Nov. 2019 are very accurate. All we can hope for is that the local Health Dept scans these reviews before checking a restaurant for health violations. We received our drinks but waited over 90 minutes for our order to arrive — it never did. In the meantime, we watched the staff run around, some taking orders that also did not arrive while we were there and other staff just walking around not doing anything. The floor is filthy as is the bar counter where they place new dishes to serve guests and also place dirty dishes after cleaning a table. One customer slipped on the floor alongside the bar where dirty dishes were placed (maybe something was dripping on the floor). In addition, one of the staff (possibly the owner) picked up cutlery off the floor where a waiter also slipped and spilled all the knifes, spoons, and forks. The “possible” owner or manager placed the cutlery back into the clean trays, so they could be used in setting the tables. We also noticed this older man (again, maybe the owner) opening the desert cooler and taking fruit off of the various deserts and eating them in full view of everyone. We just could not sit there any longer watching how this place was operating. It needs a complete cleaning along with a reevaluation of how it runs — the staff need training — and, maybe the kitchen along with the cooks need an assessment as to how to operate efficiently. We paid for our drinks and left. Again, we recommend that you, DO NOT EAT HERE. That’s until they seriously clean the place. There are so many wonderful restaurants in San Miguel from which to choose — but please read the Tripadvisor reviews, first.More

We didn't have any of the problems that others reported (and one of us returned for a second meal during a relatively short visit to San Miguel de Allende). The service was good and the food tasty.

It was the worst meal in San Miguel. The service here is the WORST. We had to wait over TWO HOURS for our food. Even the drinks were wrong. Over one hour for them to bring an orange juice. My daughter asked for chocolate milk...and they brought her Chai Latte (after 50 minutes of waiting). About an hour later of placing our order the waiter says they don't have a dish we had ordered. The waiter was nowhere to be seen, I had to approach directly to the bar to get a coke I asked for. Some dishes arrived 90 minutes late, and had the wrong sides. When we told the waiter the order was wrong, he took it back to the kitchen and the cook starts SHOUTING that orders cannot be changed. My sister's food was brought to the table 2 HOURS after we placed the order and it was COLD. We had to cancel one dish that even after two hours was not served yet. We asked to speak with the manager and instead of giving an apology she hided with our waiter in a back room. We asked for the check to one of the other waiters and he brought it saying he was not responsible of anything because this was not his table. Definitely the WORST experience in all our stay in San Miguel. Would not even recommend this place to my worst enemy.More

Take a look at the floor. It’s dirty. My placemat was stained. Aren’t you embarrassed ? The dust hanging on the eclectic style decorations is off putting. Especially the dust hanging off the camera spying on the kitchen staff . Its supposed to have this...cozy feeling but after sitting for a while the cluttered environment is suffocating. The counters surrounding the kitchen are full of dirty rags, salsas and pre maid concoctions sitting out, some without lids , unrefrigerated and in chaos. I took a look around the kitchen bar. Food is sitting out in the open and it’s messy. (No excuse plenty of staff sitting around with only 11 people in the restaurant )Then I watched a worker grab a nasty mop , clean the floor and then prep the salmon for a customers bagel with out washing her bare hands. I continue on horrified to see different staff members pick at their noses and then prepare food, A waitress put her finger in her mouth and then touched my plate minutes later. The staff was kind and attentive but it’s obvious the manager and/or owner could care less about safe food handling and training the staff to carry it out. Our food was good for the prices but I almost didn’t eat it out of fear of getting sick and I surely won’t return.More
