We headed for Gieltys on the recommendation of Jackie ( behind the bar at the first pub over the bridge on Achill ). We're having a big celebratory Dinner tonight so we were only looking for something 'snacky'. The chowder was fantastic - really creamy and big chunks of fish, all piping hot and accompanied by gorgeous wheaten bread. Others... More

I was blown away by the view of Keel Bay and Clare Island, but not the food: no salt and pepper on the table, don't think the chips were home made, the chicken club sandwich was dry, the kiddie burger was all white bread and no cheese, the seafood chowder was asparagus soup with a few fish pieces (we thought... We went there for a bite to eat after a long walk on Achill. It took ages for 2 simple dishes to be delivered to our table. Chips with bacon bits and cheese had been left in an oven to be re-heated and were burnt. the chips were dry and the bacon hard like a rock. the dish had not... More

Gielty's is the place to go if you want good fish and chips. The fish is tender, the batter is tasty and the chips is definitely the best on the Island.

Lovely pub with a great view if you can get a window seat. Great menu selection, plenty to choose from. Staff were excellent and very friendly. All homemade with lovely fresh ingredients and really decent sized portions. Would definitely recommend and hope to be back in the future.

It's an ok pub. It was close to where I was staying so naturally first choice of pub (not that there are many on the island) and I ended up just having a drink because the food was incredibly expensive (€15 on average) and my eyes judged by what others got which didn't convince me to fork out €15. My... More

I had the best fish chowder that I have ever had, with fabulous Irish brown bread and a great BLT with traditional Irish ham which in Ireland is called bacon. My wife loved the fresh house made squash with orange soup and shared the BLT. It was a fabulous, warm respite for lunch on the way back from a visit... More

We visited Gielty's for a sandwich on a trip to Achill on a beautiful February day. After we ate the lovely grub by a roaring fire, we paid up and headed out to look across at the cliffs and the pub landlord very kindly popped out after us and gave us a quick explanation of what we were looking at...
