Don't overlook this tiny eatery. The steaks with chimichurri sauce is pure ambrosia. The open kitchen lends a homey feel to your dining experience. The staff and service are great. If you're a vegetarian, I would highly recommend the veggie pizza. Takes a little longer to make than many of the entrees, but worth the wait. This little restaurant is... More

Nice afternoon stop, to an excellent lunch. Large margarita's great for hot afternoon. Wait staff was helpful with meal selections. Beware of photo opp. They present you with the photo after the meal. We did purchase one, with a frame. Very enjoyable afternoon.

Parrilla El Criollo is an Argentinian restaurant specializing in South American style grilled meats and the typical fare you'd expect to find after riding for days on the high desert pampas: empanadas, chorizo, papas fritas (OK, fried potatoes). We stayed nearby and stopped in to try out. The restaurant is new and is elegantly themed and decorated. The meats are... More

Finally stopped in here while staying in a condo up North and was surprised at how bad it was. Seemed as though it was simply heated up frozen items and I would not return.

El Criollo is just around the corner from the condo we rented. After a long walk back down 5th - we were ready for dinner. Pedro enticed us in with 2 for 1 drinks. Thirsty as we were, this seemed like a good idea. We ordered the meat platter - it was a sample of chicken, pork, 2 kinds of... More

Since it was raining it was a quiet night in the restaurant. Our waiter Pedro provided terrific service. The grilled vegetables which came with our steak were amazing. With an order of fries on the side we were very satisfied and that was sharing the steak. The dessert was a wonderful ending to our meal. My only regret...should have skipped... More

Good service, great steaks, reasonably priced for just about everything. However it was the delicious dessert of ice cream chantilly cream, meringue and fruit. My only reservation was their decision to include a 15% service charge which no other restaurant in Playa added on our visit. It prompted us not to increase that to the 20% we usually leave.

We stayed in Playa for Christmas and New Years this year. El Criollo was a greatest discovery. This restaurant has such a great atmosphere and food - you'll just want to keep coming back. The services can be better, that's for sure, but the food overshadows this flaw. Empanadas, pizzas and the chicken - everything we tried there - are... More

We were walking down 5th avenue looking for a place to eat. We walked by this Argentinian and took a mental note as we like Argentina beef. The sky was threatening major thunderstorms, we kept walking looking and being petitioned by eager employees to eat at their establishments. When it started to rain, we quickly walked back to this spot... More

My partner and I spent a month in the newer north end of Playa and enjoyed the great restaurants in the area. One we particularly enjoyed was El Facon. We thought the beef entrees exceptional and the rest of dinners and presentation were of similar quality. We happened to meet one of the owners who talked of his goals for... More
