I've made 6 trips to Merida over the past 4 years, and every time I come, like a Pavlovian dog, I automatically head down to Helados Colon for my nightly fix of coconut ice cream. It really is the best ice cream I've ever had. Be careful though, it is very addictive!

It's like being a kid again, when ice cream was made with real cream and real fruit and real sugar. There are two locations I know of, one on the zocalo, the other on Paseo Montejo near calle 39. It's all absolutely delicious - my husband raves about their milk shakes.

Ice cream is more like gelato. We ate at two branches of this shop. Both had a variety of exotic fruit flavors. Try the Mame, Guayabana, Zapote. Others are probably great too but we kept coming back for these.

The best dessert or sweet treat in all of Merida. Great local flavors, most based on tropical fruit. My personal favorite is the coconut sorbet, which is very creamy. All sorbets are served with a glass of water by waiters who seem to be wearing the original uniforms from 1907 when the place first opened. The Paseo Montejo branch lets... More

My wife and I have eaten ice cream all over the world and Helados Colon is as good as it gets. We were just in Merida on a hot Thursday and before leaving stopped by. My wife had the limon and I had the chocolate. Both were incredible, in fact if we hadn't had to leave we would have gone... More

I have tried different types of ice creams and this one was a special one; I would have had them all if I was not after a healthy diet. I had the 'Guanabana' one in a sorbete and my fiancé had a 'Campola de Mantecado', both were completely delicious! We visited the "main" branch located next to te 'Zocalo' -Merida's... More

for sure, Merida's most famous ice cream shop right across the street from the zocolo. Lots of great fruit flavors and local flavors you probably haven't taste before

I prefer the Montejo location. It seems cleaner. But wouldn't not go to the one in the square. Love the chocolate, coconut and pineapple flavors. Always a hard decision!

I discovered Helados and Sorbeteria Colon on this visit to Merida (my 4th). It's located on the plaza under the arches and it's very busy all the time. I can see why. Their sorbets made of tropical fruit are clearly out of this world. I visited four times and had guanabana the first time after asking for mamey, which they... More
