I was there with my best friend a thursday night and it wasn't busy at all. The service is really bad although they have lots of waiters, the food is simple and horrible for an astronomic price. The waiter that was attending us lied to my face telling me the tortillas were corn tortillas although it was wheat although I... More

Obviously the best way to see the Peon Contreras theater is to work an event into your travel itinerary. If this isn't possible, a quick visit to the cafe will work. It is reminicent of the "good-times" and makes you feel like you've gone back in time.

Don't bother, service is poor, the food is just about edible and they tried to charge us $25 for two slices of tomato, because the sandwich they made did not have enough tomato to start with.

Didn't read any reviews before eating breakfast here. It was fairly average and what we ordered didn't look like the picture. We both ordered the America breakfast which was suppose to be eggs, bacon and toast. We got the eggs and bacon but it came more Mexican style. The first waiter we had just kept shaking his head whenever we... More

Just a block or so from Plaza Grande, Cafe Peon Contreras is delightful. It offers good good food at reasonable prices. Best of all, it has tables outside, perfect for enjoying the world as it passes by. Sopa de lima, quesadillas, and poc chuk were all delicious.

This is a great place to enjoy a beer, or some local cuisine. I had Brazo de Reina, which is basically a vegetarian tamale. I loved it. The local history surrounding this cafe is just amazing.

A nice coffee shop featuring snacks desserts, and full meals. They set chairs and tables outside, as well as seats. At night, they have live music usually playing boleros and ballads creating a nice environment.

We had a Cappuccino and a flan . Coffee was great, flan average. Right beside a quiet plaza or park. This location is In my opinion quintessential mexico!

I was NOT impressed with anything in this restaurant. The service was slow - VERY slow, it did not look clean and the food was average at best. There are many fine places in Merida to eat - this is NOT one of them. I recommend you find another option - any other option - unless you just happen to... More

The cafe is housed within the walls of the architectural gem of the opera house, Peon Contreras. Ideal for a glass of wine, cafe americano or even lunch. There is seating in the building or outside on Hidalgo square so it is perfect for people watching.
