The legendary bar/restaurant was easy to find and great. Amazing colors, film and historic posters and art and an intimate vibe. At first I worried about my meager Spanish but it didn't matter. A michelada- beer and tomato juice got us started. And mescal poured from a giant jug. With each drink came a large portion of botanas; fried potatoes,... More

We really wanted to like this place, and the location and atmosphere are great, but otherwise we were very disappointed. They have no menu, so they are either extremely overpriced or discriminate against tourists and charge extra. We were charged 45 pesos each for a Corona and Victoria beer. Even at fancy restaurants around town, those don't cost more than... More

We really wanted to try this restaurant for dinner, so when we stopped by to make a reservation we found out that they didn't serve dinner, but did offer a set lunch menu during certain hours (I want to say it was something like noon - 4pm, but I might be wrong, it was very short hours for dining, this... Wonderful place. The food is good and it is necesary to have it because what I really recommend is to try the different options they have for the Mezcal. You can taste Lime, you can try clove.....just go and feel magical flavours in your mouth. If you are traditional and the transformation of the Mezcal would be for you a... More

We had heard this was an intriguing bar which physically it is. We ordered a Margarita and a common Mexican beer. I observed the bartender making my margarita with tequila and Squirt!. When I objected to what he was doing the other bartender poured it out and made a correct one. After that they ignored us for the rest of... More

5 margaritas and a table full of incredibly tasty tapas-style dishes later, we made friends with a Mexican couple and continued to celebrate life and their recent engagement with more drinks...and a shot of Mezcal on the house! The coolest place!

We really enjoyed our trip to La Clave Azul. We went during the day for botanas. We had four courses of different fare. Roasted potatoes, cucumber and yuca with chiles, flatus with roasted chicken cheese and salsa verde, and cilantro soup. We also had four Victoria's and for shots of centenario reposado with sangrita. The bill was 420 pesos. The... More

just at the top of san fernando square up the alley, la clave azul (see the blue wall and you are there) is a great old bar which oozes character…old mexican lobby cards and bric-a-brac cover the walls, they serve tequila from a big jug, stock craft beers and seem to have food and snacks but we didn't see any... Easily the best ambience of any bar I've been to. Great place to have a drink and snack. We went twice during our stay.

Hidden gem near Plaza San Fernando. It is a great place to enjoy some mezcal, beer and a nice meal. Their "lechón" is very delicious and only available for lunch / early arvo!
