Lacks Hospitality, Food Not Great, Won’t Return

Hubby and I went to Java for lunch for the first time in years. We tend to go, have a poor experience, don’t go for years, go and have a poor experience and so on and so on. So we wandered in full of hope. Firstly, there were 6 other people in the cafe and all looked like they were settled and with their food and drink. We were happy about this as we were on a tight-ish schedule. We sat for 5 minutes while the guy behind the counter chatted to a customer and another staff member sat at a table eating. We realised that she was a staff member when she eventually walked over to us, placed 2 menus on the table and said “you order over there when you are ready”. No greeting, no smile, no hospitality. No telling where “over there” was. Hubby ordered a chicken burger (essentially a chicken schnitzel in bread) and I ordered the special meatballs in Turkish bread. Hubby liked his “burger” but my meatballs were just mince with a heap of mashed tomatoes and some flavouring, but it was essentially just the taste of tomato. It was unpleasant and I just ate the Turkish bread which was at least tasty because it was flooded in butter. When I ordered the food, again the same staff member who was eating earlier showed no hospitality whatsoever. No chat, no smile, no interest. With the lack of interest we were shown, we intend to give them the same level of interest and not return. Very unimpressed.

Too noisy

Another guest asked for the radio to be turned down as she could not hear her friend. Even so, it remained noisy and very distracting. I chose the morning special of coffee and cake. the price was good, but both items were ordinary. If the noise issue could be resolved this could be a comfortable place to sit, but I now see why most people sat outside.

Very happy with our meals We had the Chicken Parma and spaghetti carbonara Both meals were great choices and the prices were more than reasonable for Yarraville Also would definitely recommend the coffee and cakes...A mention for Hugo who gave us great customer service..quick, helpful and polite

NEVER AGAIN!!!

Had dinner with friends, orders chicken schnitzel with pepper sauce. Got a very burnt, dry a d tasteless veal schnitzel! Give it another go... went with 5 friends for breakfast. One ordered poached eggs on toast, got two overcooked eggs in one piece of toast. Asked for another piece of toast, got it 10 mins after we had finished our meal, cold toast no butter! I had hash browns that were soggy, obviously frozen and not heated properly with the biggest amount of relish . It looked like a red plate with a bit of egg and soggy potato. No positive feedback from anyone who has been there. You have really lost it!!!

Visited for lunch and decided on the egg and ham rolls with coffee which we were advised were on a special. We could see why when we received them. Huge pieces of bread and on opening the sandwich the bacon burnt black and eggs overdone. The coffees very average with no crema which so many cafes in Melbourne now do even though their prices have gone up. For heavens sake learn how to cook the most simplest things and how to present a good coffee if you want to stay in business. Would not really recommend this place as so many much better cafes around even just opposite. $24 and about all it was worth. Not good!!!!! Service very so so.

Stopped here for a quick coffee whilst wandering around Yarraville. Friendly and efficient service, good coffee and wide selection of cakes. We had the Almodine cake which was surprisingly good

We came here for dessert after dinner. The stsff we friendly, the selection was fantastic. A great spot to stop and have a cheeky tipple and a slice. I definitely recommend.

Second visit with family

Visiting our sons in the area and this was our second visit to Cafe Java for brunch. We have had awesome breakfast in our time but this one tops them all. The size of meals was ample and great food. Priced the average Melbourne prices but for quality it's worth it. Service is with a smile and attended too all the time for empty plates. We sat inside the first time and second time outside which are both great. Very busy area but lovely atmosphere.

Lots to eat and drink, whether you just want a quick coffee or a sit down lunch this place is fantastic. Located just 2 minutes from Yarraville train station and has indoor and outdoor seating!

Very disappointing

I took two friends out for the day two weeks ago and we stopped at Java for lunch. We all ordered grilled calamari with a Greek salad and chips on the side. When the food arrived the chips was fine but the calamari was tasteless, seemed like it was just warmed through, and had a fairly strong smell. We payed over $90 dollars for coffee and chips as that was all we could stomach. The waitress asked us about the food as she saw that we hadn't eaten it. She mentioned it to the male person in charge and the chef but they avoided us completely. She offered us a coffee to compensate which we did not take up as we just wanted to get out of the café not to smell the food anymore. We left Java and went to another café and ate. Unfortunately our mood was spoilt. Needless to say our lunch worked out to be very expensive. On that day Java had nothing going for it but the young girl waitress who was friendly and tried her best to cope with what was delivered. We will never return to Java again nor will recommend it to any one else.

Relax With Newspapers & Fantastic Brekky In Window Seat

It's so easy to spend hours at Java, where host Catarina is welcoming and bright - and there are high-back comfortable seats and newspapers at the ready too. All interactions are efficient here, the big brekky is fantastic, and the coffee is perfect. Get a seat in the bay window if you can, then meander around the village atmosphere that is Yarraville. My regular stop. GO!

GREAT COFFEE AND GREAT FOOD

We were a group of friends going to see the movie and had dinner last Saturday. We got there around 6.30pm and the café was nearly packed. There was no one at the counter when we made our orders, the barista then stopped making coffee and jumped to the counter and friendly asked if we had been served. She then took our orders in a professional manner. This was an efficient service for this café. The food was so delicious and very tasty. We got Grilled calamari with Greek salad, T-Bone Steak, seafood linguini….. All were delicious and worth for the price. We came back after the movie, the café was full. We got many options for dessert. The cafe is cosy and cute but may be a challenge to find a seat in during peak hours. Java café has a range of pastries available in a glass cabinet. Highly recommend the Almond Croissant and a sticky date pudding. The flavour of sticky date pudding was excellent. The café does both a pour over and espresso coffee. Both types are exceptional. With a high volume of coffee orders, the barista still motored and it took a surprisingly short time for really flavoursome and delectable coffee to be ready. The flat white came out was not too hot, not too watery, not tongue wrinkling bitter, not cold. Well done. We will definitely come back for a tasty food and decent coffee.

Perfect Sunday Breaky

My friends and Rob came here for breaky. Everyone else had the Big Breaky with a free coffee and were all extremely impressed by the crispy bacon. We had a good time. I had the Breaky Royale (avo + feta + asparagus) and YUM! Very reasonably priced. Main highlight. Coffee came out SO fast! Wake up with Java.
