Dog in a doublet was our second choice for our 39th anniversary meal..... and thank god The Packhorse in Northborough messed up. Arrived at about 3.15 to a nearly empty restaurant ...not a problem we wanted a quiet meal and the rush was obviously over so settled in for a meal and a chat. WOW, the food here is incredible,... Me and my partner came to the dog in a doublet to try the tasting menu we had read the reviews on trip advisor and did not disappoint! On our arrival we were greeted by janek and was seated straight away. Already we felt good from the friendly welcome we got from everyone including the barman and he chef who... More

Go there only if you want to spend lots of money on food, if you want to just pop in for a cake and coffee or a snack the guy will seat you at the door even if the place is empty and you are with 2 kids. I have been there 3 times and the service was nice only... More

Thank You for you review. I do believe you have got it totally wrong. i have looked at at this incident in depth and believe we had our wires crossed. We believed that you were not sure if you were in for a quick drink or wanted to stay for food. We thought you were on the chesterfield deciding and... More

Spending much of my time travelling it was a pleasure finding this Gem in a remote part of Peterborough. Judging the appearance upon arrival was most definitely a wrong approach & thankfully so as it was apparent the small farm adjacent to this restaurant merely complimented the signification of 'Dog in a Doublet' In reading various reviews and as a... After a 1000 mile trip across Austria, Germany and France, we were looking forward to our first night in the UK for a fortnight. We booked the Dog based on reviews, even though the Google Earth Image at the time showed a boarded up building. When we arrived at what looked like a bit of a run down pub, we... More

Excellent food, service, best in the area. You have to drive to it but it's worth it, great choice of meats, seasonal veg n gravy. Yum!!

I was taken to this pub recently for a birthday meal, there were four adults in total for lunch on New Year's Eve 2016. I had previously know of the restaurant as a pub before it changed to a Gastro pub, and so had not eaten there since the change. I was pleasantly suprised by the interior of the pub... More

We booked this restaurant based on the good Trip Advisor reviews which we cannot understand given our exceptionally poor lunch time experience on New Years Eve. We arrived at 1.00 pm to an empty bar and restaurant which was shabby and uninviting. The furniture was well worn and the upholstery on the chairs was stained and had cigarette burn holes.... More

So sorry you did not enjoy your meal. The simple fact of this matter is that the waiter thought you said you wanted your steaks medium well. It gave me very little pleasure cooking you steaks medium well... but they were perfectly medium well. We have some of the best steaks in the world and they are ageing in the... More
