Nice pub/restaurant with an expansive garden and campsite feel to the additional lodgings. Could not fault the food, and the rooms are well equiped but seem almost corporate for our tastes, as we prefer something more personal and individual. That said and done, very clean and nicely finished.

Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed the food and thought the rooms were clean and nicely finished. I'm a little surprised you felt the rooms were almost corporate. Each room does have similar facilities, furniture and is equipped to similar standards. Rooms are individually decorated and have local art and photographs and are all available to view... More

Although we live locally, we had never tried the food here and were impressed. There was a decent range - we had sea bass, pizzas and fish and chips - and the service was good. They also had some nice non-alcoholic drinks options for drivers. The addition of the old cider press and wheel inside added to the atmosphere.

The a la carte menu (unless you like burgers, pizza or something and chips) did seem rather limited for the type of establishment and the prices charged. Having said this the service was excellent and my choice of main good. We had a dog with us and were welcomed into the stable bar (which had proper tables and chairs to... More

I visited for the weekend with my husband to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We had a spa day at Lion Quays and chose The Baron to stay 2 nights to spend in this part of the country. The drive through the cute little villages was a lovely way to arrive at this cosy hotel. The hotel is run by... More

Wonderful rural location with lots of glorious walks from the doorstep of the pub. Rooms are fabulous. We were in room 2 and the bath was much appreciated after a 10 mile walk (there is a shower too over the bath). Nice touches with toiletries, chocolate, biscuits and iPod docks in rooms. Wonderful food and good vegetarian choices, the cheesy... More

Janet and I have been there several times and not been disappointed. We're vegetarians and always found something tasty to eat. Friendly atmosphere, plenty of space around tables, good car parking and nice view over the gardens. Good food without pretentious 'dandying up'.... you get what you pay for. All to rare nowadays.

Thank you for your review. It's good to hear you enjoy our vegetarian food - we normally have a couple of options on our main menu, and we try and keep one gluten and dairy free option. We also have our pizzas and can always do larger sized starters too. More

We stayed here with my Mother in law after Christmas and had an evening meal in the restaurant. The food was very good, I chose the Turkey, which I was pleased with, my only criticism was that it didn't come with any bread sauce or Cranberry sauce. with hindsight I should have requested the cranberry as I saw another table... Thank you for your review. We don't put sauces or condiments on plates unless it is in the menu description (for example red onion relish on our steak burger), however condiments are always available. I'm glad you also enjoyed your breakfast and hope to welcome you and you mother in law again. More

We were staying at a some self catering lodges nearby for Christmas and so decided on an evening meal out as an additional treat. The restaurant is recommended by the holiday site and we certainly were not disappointed. Staff were very friendly, polite and attentive. Restaurant itself is very clean and inviting and has some interesting decor and history. The... More
