Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We typically avoid national park food, but decided to purchase food at Phantom Ranch so we would not need to haul as much food during our rim to rim hike. Keep in mind you must book meals well in advance. We booked a cabin cancellation so food was not originally available, but I checked the website every few days and was able to purchase food cancellations as well - two steak dinners and four breakfasts. Our family are not heavy eaters so we were able to share the two steak dinners (all food is to go right now due to COVID). It included a large steak, fresh carrots, baked potato, two pieces of corn bread, salad, desert and drink (iced tea or lemonade). The only packaged item was the dessert. All the food was tasty and fresh. The breakfasts were also ample and included scrambled eggs, two large sausage links, three small pancakes, a fresh piece of fruit, orange juice and coffee. Considering all supplies need to be send down on mule, the food was fresh and the take out was hot. If you are hiking down, I'd recommend purchasing food to lighten your load and fuel you for the hike up.

I have been to Phantom 4 times in the last 4 years and had a great time each time. I was looking forward to my trip this year, but due to circumstances behind my control,I will have to cancel my trip on Sept 3, 2020. Xanterra will not refund me but will allow me to transfer my rez. I have a cabin for 3 with 3 stew dinners, can be increase to 4 beds and meals. If you are fit and have 2 or 3 friends who can get there here is your chance. Text Nein won six, six oh six, too tree too oh.

We stayed here after riding down on the mules, you just look around and its a site to be seen. It's much warmer down there than at the top. There's a beautiful creek to the side which runs to the Colorado river , but the creek is a great temp and so peaceful. Got the most amazing pictures of my friend near a mule dear at sunset. Dinner time great, food awsome, staff awsome, enough said it's a must stay

I made my way down the trail by mule and stayed one night. As I dismounted my mule, I could only think of three things; shower, food and sleep. Shower - The shower facilities were similar to a gym shower with separate stalls. The water was hot and it was good to get the dust off. Now in clean clothes and refreshed it was almost time for food. A short walk around the grounds ending at the dining hall. Food - Dinner was served family style. Considering everything is brought in by mule train, it was better than the food I had been eating on the rim. The steak dinner with salad and baked potato was enjoyable. The even had oven braised brussel sprouts. Next was sleep. Sleep - The cabins are rustic with a bed, toilet closet and cold water sink. It was going to be chilly that night so we used the heat from the AC. While noisy, I was tired and as the bell rang for the second meal seating, I drifted off to seep. Next morning they fed us well for breakfast; eggs, sausage, pancakes. After breakfast we headed to the corral and mounted our mukes for the ride out.

We were camped at Bright Angel during our Rim to Rim adventure. The food and drink were a welcome treat while backpacking.

I stayed 2 nights in the woman's dorm. It's not a 5 star hotel but it is wonderful. You meet women from all over the country. There are beds with sheets and comforters, a towel, hot shower, electricity, heat and an outet to recharge your phone battery. The steak dinner was fantastic with baked potato, vegetable, salad, corn bread, iced tea. It's nice that the canteen opens from 8-10pm and was packed with people having a drink, playing cards, making beaded bracelets, writing postcards, and talking. One time won't be enough. I hope visit again!

Dinner and breakfast was included with the mule ride package and served family style. Our dinner consisted of a big slab of steak, grilled broccoli, a fist-sized baked potato, salad and chocolate cake dessert. Steak was cooked medium well. It was bland. I guess that what the A1 sauce, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce was for. I liked the brocolli and cornbread though. For breakfast, I liked the scrambled eggs, and sausage. They also served 4 inch pancakes, bacon, and sliced fruits. Food was basic and nothing fancy but it was good!

Did the Rim-to-Rim in one day, starting at 4 AM on the North Rim. Arrived here at 10 AM and rested for an hour. Bought a couple of cups of ice to help cool down. Also, filled water bottles with ice which lasted halfway up the south rim. Passed a ranger halfway up the Bright Angel Trail who asked if we were OK. I shook my pack and said, "I still have ice." She was amazed. It was great to have cold water to drink on such a hot day, which included constantly soaking my shirt and hat to help stay cool.

After hiking down BAT and arriving to 109 temps in the shade, this place was heavenly retreat to get some delicious lemonade and cold beers. Prices not cheap but when you are roasting in bright angel camp ground, it worth the money. Some web sites say they sell ice cream. They do not.

One of the most unique places on earth. People actually live and work here completely disconnected from social media, the internet, tv, etc. I loved it! They also endure rude tourists, less than stellar weather and other problems. Why??? The canyon, that's why. There is nothing like hiking the entire canyon from one side to the other. Anyone who is in half decent physical shape should do it in their lifetime. Loved the stew dinner, the breakfast and the sack lunch. My postcards never arrived however and that was disappointing.

We stayed 2 nights at the bottom and sure were glad to have air conditioning and a real bed to sleep on. We were a little confused by our room - we had been delayed from a February trip because the park closed during a blizzard and rock slides and they confirmed changing us from a queen room to a 4 bunk room. Imagine our surprise when we opened the door to Cabin 9 and found not 2 sets of bunks, but 5 - yes, that is 10 single beds and a toilet for my husband and I! There was a surprising amount to do down there, between becoming a Jr Ranger, attending the ranger programs, sitting in the creek, watching the river, and hiking up to Phantom Overlook. All the meals are served family style and I recommend being prompt, although they do refill most things. Dinner the first night was steak, and stew the second night. I am not a stew eater normally, but to my surprise it was delicious even after a 105 degree day! I think the only thing I would put above the stew was breakfast, which I ate a ton of.

We visited Phantom Ranch as part of the Colorado river white water rafting trip's side day hike. It was the cutest ranch. amazing of how all the amenities have been setup there. Carry some cash with you (a couple of $$s is plenty) to buy & mail out a postcrad from there to family and friends. Even today, mail from Phantom Ranch is carried out by mules!

Hiked down on Father’s Day via South Kaibab trail at 5:45am. Long, hot, hard but so worth the difficulties. The staff at Phantom Ranch is AWESOME! If you get a chance and are up to the challenge, do it. Just got back and will submit some pics later.

If you're fortunate enough to be at Phantom Ranch (either a hiker, rafter or mule rider), it's fun to dine at Phantom Ranch. Meals are served family style and you get to know your table mates! Reservations are required as supplies are brought down by mule train daily - there are no "extra" meals available. Steak dinner was ok (sides were good but steaks were on the table when you sat down - ours were quite done and our family prefers medium rare), breakfast was good (eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, pancakes, etc.)
