We stayed in a cabin. The cabins are air conditioned and very comfortable. The Phantom ranch food is really good. We had beef stew one night and steak the second night. Very friendly and helpful staff who understand how fortunate we are to have the...More

a hike to the ranch is NOT something you will do easily and it most defining is NOT something to try starting at 9 AM in the morning - LEAVE EARLY about 6 AM or even sooner and you MIGHT make it as long as...More

This particular visit the Steak dinner was a little lacking. My steak was seared on the outside and medium rare on the inside, obviously cooked on a high heat. So I had a bit of the burned meat flavor, along with the juicy meat flavor...More

We stayed here while doing the overnight Mule ride, our cabin was clean and comfy. Food was delicious, just a little rushed. Fantastic walks around, loved it.

My husband and I stayed 1 night after hiking down South Kaibab trail. Obtaining a reservation is very hard but I was determined knowing they will soon go to a "lotto" system. After numerous calls, I was lucky to receive a night stay. We arrived...More

The main purpose of this review is to encourage folks to be patient and try for last minute reservations. After trying 2 consecutive months a year ahead of time (hitting the redial button on the phone repeatedly), I gave up and booked a Grand Canyon...More

We had received backcounty permits 5 months before our Rim to Rim hike, but really wanted to stay at Phantom Ranch. We picked up spots from cancellations 10 days before our trip. Great location, beautiful scenery and thrilled I did not have to camp at...More

The staff is what makes Phantom Ranch great! They truly are dedicated folks who make a Rim to Rim hike possible. Eating family style food, taking care of weary hikers, serving beer and wine, cleaning out the bunkhouse while an ever changing set of guests...More

This is just for the cantina/store. We camped at Bright Angel campground a quarter mile away. We did not stay at Phantom Ranch dorms or have there breakfast or dinner. Did have their lunch sack. It consisted of Bagel, Cream cheese, jelly, peanuts, Craisins, oreos,...More

Best not to go in summer. HOT. Been there 17 times. Meals are unvarying but tasty. If you cannot get a reservation and can stay on the rim a couple of days, get on their waiting lists. It has always worked for me.

I think that's right . . . except I remember there being special times when you could use the credit card. The establishment seemed to prefer cash.

The costs is more like $500 each, less if you book multiple people as then you share a cabin. I've done it three times now and loved it each time! I know people have booked these just a few months in advance but to ensure... More
