Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a lovely lunch here. Steak Sandwich and Southwest Chicken sandwich was good. It of course a lovely National Park hotel dining room. The staff was friendly and attentive. A bit pricey but it’s in the Park so I think I worth it. It’s...about the experience.More

Salads and bread were the best part. Both the Chicken and Chef’s Special, Pork Chop, were way overcooked and therefore disappointing dry. They ended up not charging us for one entry.

This is a historic hotel with an old fashioned dining room. You can see the canyon from the dining room a little bit. The lobby and the restaurant are dark and dated. (It is a historical place but has not been updated at all). We...did get a reservation online before we went. The service from everyone was very good. It is a nice stop in your day to sit down as dining options in the park are limited and most people sit on picnic tables and eat sandwhiches. This is a nicer exeperience. We tried the chili which was good and came with little corn bread rolls I had a grilled chicken sandwhich which was fair. My partner had a burger which was fine.More

We were very impressed with the quality of both food & service at the El Tovar dining room. We loved the historic ambiance of the old hotel. The quality of the food was much better than I have experienced at most other National Park dining...facilities and the portions were quite large. We ate both dinner & breakfast here and loved both. The only down side - it's rather expensive as expected at National Park facilities.More

Managed to eat breakfast here. Tried three times to get a dinner reservation, even three weeks in advance. No preferential treatment for hotel guests so never managed to get dinner here. Last night we were told that they were fully booked but later heard them...tell someone that there was a 30 minute wait for non-reservations. Not a very accommodating place.More

My family and I enjoyed a great lunch at El Tovar. The service was fantastic, starting with a text saying our table was ready before our reservation. We were seated immediately and the staff was very attentive. Our server Ernesto brought kids menus, and pens...over for our children, and kept the refills coming. The El Tovar Hotel is a beautiful building, and the dining room has beautiful views. It was a great spot to sit and rest, recharge and eat a nice lunch. I would definitely go return.More

The meal itself and the menu choices were average. Prices were what you would expect. The waitress was very nice. Be sure to ask for a table with a view. I had to book a month in advance online. There are not a lot of...choices at the South Rim. I would go here for the experience. So much history. We also went for breakfast, which I thought was better than dinner.More

El Tovar is another wonderful example of a National Park historic hotel. In this case it was built by the Santa Fe railroad. The actual dining room was closed when we arrived so we sat in the bar attached to the dining area. It is...dark and rich in the style of early 20th century rooms. Both the lobster roll and the crab cake were excellent with a nice view overlooking the canyon and canyon rim path - great people watching.More

One of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. I cannot speak to the quality of food or drink because we didn’t make it that far. After waiting 10 minutes outside the lounge, we still had not been acknowledged. I walked up to the...bar to ask if I was waiting in the correct spot and was chastised for stepping in front of the sign. Sarcasm from the server about “that’s what the sign is there for” was not appreciated.More

My husband and I have enjoyed many special breakfasts and dinners at El Tovar over the years, with the restaurant's stunning views, warm wood decor and sometimes a crackling fire. We just love this beautiful and historic place. This was our first lunchtime visit, and...it didn't disappoint. A chicken sandwich with French fries is a pretty routine lunch, but what the El Tovar can do with both is impressive. Along with the meal we savored the relaxing view of one of the wonders of the world, and knew we would be coming back as often as we can. The only sour note was the scowling expression on our server's face; maybe she was having a bad day. But it wasn't enough to spoil this special occasion. We look forward to getting back to the Canyon and El Tovar soon.More

The dining room is very nice and the service was excellent. The same can not be said for the food. My wife had the french onion soup, which she described as watery, and the beef special, which was very good. I had the caprese salad,...which was tasteless, and the cod special, which was shoe leather and I couldn't eat it. While they did not charge me for my dinner, they did not provide any other consideration for ruining our dinner. Very expensive for such terrible food.More

My husband and I could not have been more pleased with the El Tovar. My first advice would be to make a reservation either for lunch or dinner if you want to be seated near the windows overlooking the Grand Canyon, otherwise you may be...seated at a considerable distance away in the much larger dinning area. I had an elk burger (I had had elk once before) and it was perfectly done with elaborate bacon strips crisscrossing the top. I also had a nicely done mushroom soup. My husband had chili, also excellent, and, as we ate we were served by a wonderful waitress who also gave advice on which buses to take. As we had lunch, to our right, was an unforgettable view of the south rim of the canyon. Great food, great service, and an eye popping view.More

Although we did not stay at the hotel, we were able to get a table for breakfast on our departure day with only a 20 minute wait. What a treat it was! We had the loveliest server and the most delicious breakfast. The dining room...is quaint and welcoming. I hope to return again one day.More

My wife and I visited there on April 11, 2024 and was very pleased with the appearance of the restaurant however, the appearance was all that pleased my wife and I. The ribeye that I ordered was mostly fat and the New York Strip that...my wife ordered was tough and chewy. And if that wasn't bad enough, when I looked at the charges on my credit card, they had added an extra $5. to the tab without my consent. I had to ask for our drinks to be refreshed so, I only left a 15%($20.)tip. I would not recommend this place.More

We stayed at the Maswik Lodge for three nights and ate at The El Tovar lounge two nights (best kept secret in Grand Canyon) and our last night at the El Tovar Dining Room. We were never disappointed. The cocktails and wines were wonderful, the...sandwiches in the lounge were fabulous and for dinner at El Tovar, I had the duck. I had not eaten duck that good in 40 years. You can usually put your name on a waiting list and get in, so no worries if you didn’t get a reservation. El Tovar is not to be missed.More

We were there on a Friday and made them 2 days before and had no problem. It was Dec 2nd and a weekday. Not sure how it would be during warmer weather and /or on a weekend.
