The Pethers team went over and beyond to provide high quality service and exceptional meals for our wedding in April 2022. The grazing table provided between ceremony & reception was a highlight, the best many of our guests have ever seen. It blew all of our guests away with the variety, colour, taste, arrangement and generosity of the high quality food provided. Every meal during dinner ( entre & main) were delicious, full of flavor and a very generous serving. The chef went over and beyond to cater for a wide variety of food allergies and preferences and all our guests enjoyed their meals, felt reassured and there were no issues. I couldn't speak more highly of the venue, restaurant, treehouses and team at Pethers Rainforest Retreat.

We enjoyed our degustation dinner last Thursday night at Pethers. The food was tasty and different from the norm which made for a nice change. We felt the ambience was lacking and the service whilst friendly was rushed and didn't exactly match the price of the dinner. We had to pour our own wine and were bought the bill while we were still finishing our wine at 8.50pm. The value was ok ($95 per head) but the serves were very small and we felt the main could have been a big bigger. Also the menu has not been updated in the room compendium or online which is a bit poor.
On another note we called in for a "happy hour" drink about 4pm the same afternoon and no one really new about happy hour or if the bar was even open which was very bizarre. The cocktail we ordered was nice but did not match the menu (no chocolate in the espresso martini). Also there was no ambiance (music/fire etc) in fact it almost felt like we were intruding.
Both experiences could have and should have been amazing!!

My friends & I enjoyed a fabulous a la carte dining experience in the restaurant as outside guests. Chef Alex’s food was incredible & left you wanting more (but we were too full). Truly was love on a plate ❤️ & we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The cosy warm fire & the blanket of fairy lights added to the atmosphere. The service from staff was the cream on the cake. I highly recommend. Thank you for a great evening.

The staff were very welcoming when we arrived at the restaurant and being able to choose our seat was appreciated. However, it was downhill from here. We found that the cocktails (other than the margarita) were light on and we were searching for flavour. The food itself was fine, but certainly not to the standard expected of fine dining. Each course was cooked well but the overall flavour profiles were very basic and did nothing to excite the palate. Further, the serving sizes were very modest and I left the restaurant still feeling very peckish and underwhelmed. Wait staff cleared our plates without offering a top up of wine and disappeared before a further order could be made. At one stage we went about 20 mins between mains and dessert without any wait staff approaching to ask if we needed anything and it felt as if our needs were secondary. As soon as one plate for the first three courses was cleared another was set down (again without any enquiry as to whether we’d like another drink etc.) and this lead to an overall feeling of being rushed. However given the overall low mood we felt towards the end of the evening given the poor experience this wasn’t exactly a bad thing, as by the end of the evening we were ready leave. The wines we did manage to order were generally very restrained pours. Overall the experience was definitely wanting and a lowlight of an otherwise very pleasant week atop Mount Tamborine.

Thank you for your feedback. Normally our restaurant has excellent reviews. However, there have been a couple of complaints relating to one particular evening. I've looked into the matter and there was an issue that night. I do apologise the evening was not what you had hoped for. Please come again and give us an opportunity to show that is not our normal standard and offer you a reduced price to make up (booking for 2 people, 50% off the lower meal price).

My husband and I had dinner at Pethers to celebrate our final night on Mount Tamborine (our honeymoon), expecting it would be a highlight. Sadly, we returned to our villa depressed and hungry. The food was ok, but definitely not worthy of the prices, especially given the meagre serving sizes. We have done many degustation menus in the past, and we realise the serving sizes are meant to be petite, but this was bordering on stingy. The service was unbelievably inattentive - the wait staff seemed to actively avoid our table and took great care to not ask us whether we required a refill (even when our glasses had been empty for some time). We were keen to have a good time, but it seems the restaurant prefer their guests to have a ‘short time’ - we were rushed through the five courses as if the tables were in high demand (despite blatant evidence to the contrary). In short, confused as to how this is classified as a five star, fine dining restaurant. It did not come close to the standard we expected.

After much anticipation we we were excited to be dining at Pethers, as we had heard such great reviews and the photos looked amazing.
Sadly left feeling underwhelmed and dissapointed as it sadly did not live up to it's promise.
The good:
The food was nice but nothing out of the ordinary average restaurant. Staff were pleasant and atmosphere lovely although some minor tweaks could be made.
The bad sadly:
Understandable post covid, we are living in different times and restaurants are challenged with staff shortages etc however when you are charging guests $110pp for a set menu you expect a certain standard and if that can't be delivered then perhaps its time to change your business model until everything is back up and running normally.
The meals were nice but nothing amazing and not what you'd expect for the price. Certainly not fine dining.

Thank you for your feedback. Generally guests have loved the dinner and the setting with the large open log fire overlooking the floodlight rainforest. To enable us to provide more feedback to the Chef, were there specific aspects of the dinner that you were disappointed with?

Warm prosecco, good oysters, scallops/black pudding no acid balance, zucchini and pickled ginger just a cream cheese mess, sorbet great, pork belly m stock no real depth of flavour, beef cheeks over cooked & no flavour in sauce. Extremely limited wine list. Not our first time, but will be our last for a long while. What a shame for such a lovely setting

Unfortunately quality evening dining on Mt Tamborine is hard to come by. I was therefore looking forward to my evening at Pethers.
Firstly the setting is superb. Tremendous ambience surrounded by Rainforest.
This was my return visit after 5 years. The service was good ( one young waitess was a bit abrupt) but overall staff were helpful and friendly.
The meal was very disappointing. $95 for 5 courses which In total equalled about half a main meal. I must say I left feeling very underfed. The wine list is dominated by local Witches Falls wines which is good but the few other alternatives included Banrock station wines which with all due respect to Bannock Station are very much the bottom end of the market.
In all the food quantity and wine quality diminished what could otherwise have been an exceptional experience.

Dinner was as close to perfection as you can get. We have dined here before and seeing there was a new chef decided it was time for another visit.
Entree - scallops for him and roast pumpkin for me - both were delicious.
Main- poached sea perch for him and I had gnocchi- both next level.
Dessert TO DIE FOR!! lemon curd and poached pear for Mr and chocolate torte for him- what can I say so rich but a perfect end to a beautiful meal.
All this and wonderful attentive staff, I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

My husband and I ate at pethers restaurant hoping this was the pick of what was on offer for a Monday night we were advised that Pethers was the best place to eat as where we stayed there was no restaurant..
We rang Pethers and tried to book a table however was told that we had to pay a $85 deposit after taking the booking we hesitated however as it was a special night for my husband we reluctantly paid...
On arrival we were told to pick our table bare tables no tablecloths when we were seated we were offered two slices of bread on a serving platter however no side plate to put bread on..
Was this a free gresture or was it included in the price..
then we were given a menu list either or of selection and low and behold there was the bread no prices were revealed... as menu listed no prices...
Although the food was ok there was no sauce on entree just a dab of avocado with some chicken roulade n two prawns..
Then main two slices of fillet steak with half a potato one little floret of broccoli and a shrivelled up baby carrot with some sauce...
And desert a tiny slice of a brownie with horrible wipped cream and a dash of raspberry sauce...
Not to mention salt to the wounds we were charged $38 for a bottle of BanRock Moscato usual price around $8...
Would we eat here again. definite NO after a $200 plus bill.. What a rip off ..

Delighted you enjoyed your stay. Our executive chef prides himself on serving top quality food and is a firm believer that, especially for dinner, just enough is the healthiest option.

Amazing experience! Our tree house villa overlooked the stunning rainforest canopy, was private and very relaxing. Our three course dinner was incredible and so glad we chose the wine pairing!! The picnic hamper breakfast delivered to our room the next morning was perfect. Could not think of a better start (or end) to the day taking in the sounds of nature on your doorstep. Cannot wait to come back.

Well appointed private cabins in rain forest luxury, I could not ask for more regarding the romantic nature of this location.
My only feedback to management was the flagging of gluten free/ coeliac and the breakfast basket having no gluten free options and no labelling for the bread included. The restaurant had limited dessert options for flagged dietary options despite an advance booking.

Dear Chris,
Thank you for taking the time to leave your considered review. It's so lovely to hear you enjoyed our treehouses with their large open spaces and rainforest views. With such an intimate restaurant as ours, we do have a small number of meals that can be adapted to accommodate dietary requirements. I am truly sorry there wasn't one that appealed and hope that our floor team were able to find you something suitable to dine on. You make a very valid point about the Gluten Free bread supplied with your complimentary breakfast not being labeled and I shall ensure that happens going forward! I hope we may have the pleasure of welcoming you to stay with us again soon!
