Phenomenal wee pub, plenty of atmosphere and character. Best pint of Guinness in the village and some lovely whiskeys. Absolute perfection on a winters afternoon with the peat fire roaring

I was in the Hillside with a few friends for a 'couple' of drinks. We were greeted by the roaring turf fires and live music from the restaurant. We had an amazing selection of drinks on offer from local real ales to mysterious looking bottles of gin. We thought it would be wise to start off with a couple of... More

I attended as part of a large group on Saturday night. Table was booked for 8pm, we had our menus at 7.45 and were seated upstairs in a tightly packed area (some had to vacate their seats and stand at the other side of the room until others came back from the toilets)......orders were taken from around 8.45pm - initially... We were a granddad, grandma, daughter and grandson...and much loved Cocker Spaniel, we were all welcomed into the Hillside, it was chilly outside and a roaring fire was head of the welcoming committee. The food was first class, the company was good and the craic was mighty. Well done the Hillside, truly a family restaurant. See you soon x

We arrived early on a Friday evening, and were quickly seated across from a noisy group of ladies who were on there second or third course. The rest of the resteraunt was empty. We were quickly given menus and a drink order was taken. My wife ordered the bread board and pork belly bites. This consisted of three slices of... More

We decided, at short notice, to go out for dinner. Having a selection of restaurants in the Lisburn area to choose from, we chose the Hillside. We had been several times before and knew to expect good food. We all had starters and main courses. My onion soup was very good but not outstanding. My son's duck starter was superb.... More

Disappointing gluten free option. I ordered a steak which came to me with onion rings on top. When I enquired if it was safe for me the meal was removed to the kitchen. A few moments later the same meal was returned this time without the onion rings. Shame the chef didn't remove all the crumbs of batter. Really poor... More

We called into Hillside yesterday evening Sun. 25th. Sept. My partner had the Beef and I had the Lamb. Both were very tasty. The service was very good/friendly and there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant.

Four of us had a lovely meal on Friday evening. The service was good and the flavours in the chicken meal were outstanding!! The steaks were cooked to perfection & tender. There was a great atmosphere & the area outside which is now covered has lovely hanging baskets & was very pleasant to sit out in the fresh air enjoying... More

Description
The Hillside is a charming, rustic pub situated in the historic Georgian village of Hillsborough, County Down, only 15 minutes drive from Belfast city centre. The Hillside first opened its doors to patrons in 1752 and has been enjoying a busy trade ever since thanks to our excellent food and drinks selection and our friendly, welcoming service. We are renowned for our roaring open fires in the winter and our pretty cobble stoned beer garden in the summer.

Food served daily. Large parties catered for. Private room available.
