Service was fine. Ploughman's was described as having artisan bread and mature cheddar, the bread was white and the cheddar was limp and pretty tasteless and for £11 was disappointing. Steak sandwich had a lot of meat in it in very large chunks but tasted...More

Visited with a group, had booked. Kept waiting a long time at every point of the meal. Had to leave before dessert as it was so late (had arrived early evening.) Some food good, others small portions or not so good.

On a dismal wet and windy day, we'd taken the King Harry Ferry to St Mawe, driven past the Castle and decided to press on. As it was about lunchtime, we made an unplanned stop at the Punchbowl and Ladle. Another quintessential English pub, this...More

We have been here several times and indeed reviewed the Inn previously, but not for a couple of years or so. We went along on the first night of our holiday, somewhere reliable that would set our venture off in a good way. We booked...More

We ate as a family party of 8. Having eaten here several times before we were very disappointed with the slow service having to chase up the waitresses to clear the table after our main then again to place the dessert order. We noticed several...More

We ate here with friends nearly 20 years since our last visit. The decor was exactly the same - not always a bad thing as the pub area looked warm and welcoming. The restaurant, however, was in a time-warp - paper tablecloths at an angle...More

Description
A pretty, thatched traditional pub and restaurant, the Punchbowl and Ladle has masses of character both inside and out. Parts of the building date back to the 15th century and during the 17th century it was a hostelry for travellers and mariners crossing the river Fal on the King Harry Ferry. Legend has it that part of the building was employed as a customs house, and the original fireplace in the bar was used to destroy confiscated contraband! Today, Graham & Jacqui Hill and their team welcome you warmly into the pub that has two bars, a large dining area and plenty of cosy nooks and corners for people to sit in comfort.
