Really nice position on the Douro, peaceful and beautiful. However, I can't recommend DOC because of the service. Arrogant, non-attentive. Without asking,a waiter removed a sun umbrella from our table to give to another. Staff seemed to concentrate on one particular party of 2, otherwise just standing around talking to each other. Language was not a barrier, but attitude was.... More

After a drizzly, very damp hour's rabelo boat ride from Pinhao where our hotel was located, to this restaurant on the shore of the Douro River, we disembarked and scurried through the rain to the DOC restaurant for a lovely tasting menu accompanied by Quinta Vale Da. Maria wines. The service was exemplary and the meal excellent, better than one... More

We came here for lunch after hearing so much about this place. We were quite disappointed. The food is average. Very bland, nothing creative. The location is wonderful and we enjoyed sitting by the water. The service was flawless, can't fault them. I wouldn't recommend coming here though. You won't be missing out.

I couldn't have asked for a better lunch site to soak up the beauty of Portugal's Duoro Valley. It was a perfect stop on a wine tasting visit. Had a delicious lunch and desert topped off with a glass of tawny port.

No wonder this restaurant is one of the best in Portugal! Service, timing, attention to detail, sequence of the set menu were amazing. The soup, the rice, the meat but above all, the desserts were simply amazing! We will for sure come back next time we are in Douro.

Ok. I don't know all the restaurants in Portugal, but this restaurant is world class delicious. Had the incredibly delicious pate, confit duck and mushroom risotto for lunch. Delectable. It was so good, had to go back the next day for lunch for the seafood stew. So good. And the service is excellent, as is the location right in the... More

Ate here as part of a tour group of 6 people. The service was impeccable and staff were accommodating of the various diets among us. The food was all beautifully presented, tasted delicious and was paired with wines. Chef Rui Paula stopped by our table several times to see how we were enjoying our lunch and to regale us with... When travelling through the Douro area this is the best place for a lunch. The terrace, on the Douro, not at, the view over the river and the wineyards covering the hills make it a wonderfull experience. Then the food and drinks are served! A real culinary experience that made us wonder why Michelin did not honor this place with... More

Like most others here, we had an excellent meal at DOC. With the exception of one waitstaff member, the service was pleasant and courteous (and even that staff member was fine--it was just clear that when she asked if we had questions about the menu she didn't really have time to answer questions about the menu and basically told us... After having our first night in Porto at chef Rui Paula's Boa Nova restaurant, we were excited to continue our journey and experience his Douro favorite. He did not disappoint! Because our hotel was 30 minutes away, we elected to order from the set menu and order a bottle of wine from the list. The sommelier was very helpful in... More

Description
Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins.

It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river.

Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park.
It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment.

Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "
