It was our first time in this amazing country and we visited the restaurant on our last day before heading back to London. It was an amazing experience because food quality was outsanding/unique and service personalised as the staff helped us with the quick/precise service...More

Amazing location on the river with beautiful views of the valley. Service was excellent and effortlessly efficient. Visited for lunch so lots of groups on wine tours but this didn’t lessen the experience as they were fairly small parties of six or eight. We had...More

I could write a long story there that started with a chance meeting of a food lover at a wine shop in Porto who on his own arranged an escorted day trip in wine country and two of the best meals I've ever had, and...More

Big things in a restaurant are food and ambience. This one, DOC Douro by Rui Paula, has both. A breathtaking river view with the breeze. Memorable food - like the exploding capsule to clean the palate, before dessert. Great wine. Others, better equipped in the...More

The chef, Rui Paula, is a Michelin starred chef. The opportunity to have this quality of food and service at a much lower price than anywhere else was incredible. The setting was awesome, outside on top of the water in the valley and beautiful colours...More

We had no specific idea of what to expect from this place. But we were extremely surprised. Great view. Great food. Probably one of the best table we have done so far in Portugal.

Lovely food, lovely setting. Top dollar prices and a little OTT on the service (would like to have been left alone to enjoy the food more)

We have been fortunate enough to eat at many a superb restaurant, but the impeccable attention detail, the service and the utterly wonderful food is something to write home about. It runs like a well oiled machine with waiters and waitresses coming from every direction...More

We were only in Porto/the Douro valley for a weekend but this restaurant was certainly one of the highlights. We went for lunch and had the tasting menus; each of the courses were excellent (the octopus was amazingly tender, the Portuguese sausage amuse was prefect,...More

Perhaps it was the menu that night or perhaps our expectations were too high, but while we enjoyed the service tremendously, we found the food to be OK. Knowing that Portugal serves homey food, we had huge hopes for our special gourmet dinner at DOC....More

We had lunch there in December and attended in casual "wine tour" clothing. I think for dinner it would be very much the same. I would consider this an upper end restaurant but it is located in the countryside and I don't... More

Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins. It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river. Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park. It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment. Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "
