During our week in Atenas, my husband and I had dinner at El Guanacaste 3 times! We enjoyed the small plates so that we could share multiple options. The ceviche de camaron was excellent, as were the chicharron, salchichon picante, and chifrijo! Drinks were reasonable priced and delicious!

Good comida tipica. Corvina and tilapia were cooked well. Good frescos naturales. VERY hard to find in the dark in the rain. It's just after the bridge on the left and the sign is not lighted. Open air restaurant with lots of tvs showing futbol.

surroundings are so so, you are surrounded, circled by the cars parked around the restaurant, no true decoration the service is agreeable and 'tranquilo' the menu has ups and downs: spaghetti tasteless and full of water, fabulous smoked porc, chicken meat over cooked and stone hard, fantastic and enormous salad with shrimps (a wee bit of salad sauce or olive... The food is great and the parking easy. The restaurants in Atenas and its suburbs are very small and parking is a nightmare. However, El Restaurante Guanacaste is a rarity. The restaurant is located behind another building but there is a sign that indicates you've arrived. Just drive up the alleyway. You won't regret the fact that street names are... More

We went for dinner last night. After a full 2 months in several different areas of Costa Rica I can safely say two things: This is the best meat (pork and beef) that we have had and this was the only time I saw a Tico restaurant really full. We were there on a Sunday evening, and by the time... More

Based on the reviews I expected it to be hard to find but that's not the case; well marked by a big sign on the main road. Went there for lunch recently and absolutely loved the place. We had ceviche, fish soup, ribs and chicharon....all very good.

The restaurant is close by to where we are staying. So the first night we went because of convenience. Driving into it makes you think that you're going into a drive-in but the open air restaurant is a delight. The food was good, the price is reasonable and the staff is friendly. The soccer game with all the TVs in... More

It's about 3.5 miles off the 135 in a residential neighborhood. The pork ribs and chicken were delicious. It's a busy local restaurant. We loved it.

Nice little restaurant off the beaten path. A little hard to find, but worth it. Very good Costa Rican food at a reasonable price. It you go, tell Manuel (the waiter) that Dan sent you.
