Arrived a little late due to roadworks but warmly welcomed and drinks order taken promptly. Great selection of local drinks on offer, many wines by the glass. Ordered amazing chicken kaarage and a generous portion of vege spring rolls to share as starters. So fresh and tasty! Our mains were equally impressive - Sri Lankan fried rice + chicken was delicious, Sri Lankan fish curry so beautifully presented (and tasted so perfectly authentic!) and the seafood pasta jam packed with local seafood. The tables are mostly waited on by the gorgeous couple who own the restaurant, the kitchen manned by some very talented Sri Lankans. The combo works so well! Highly recommend.

What a Jewel place to go. We went there twice for meals during our short break in Walpole. They have a great selection of meals, something for everyone. Exquisite meals, I tried their Steak burger, the steak was so tender and delicious. Don't miss this one in the little town of Nornalup, situated between Walpole and Bow Bridge.

We decided to treat ourselves to a nice restaurant as we were in Walpole for 10 days . Tasting plate was freshly made with spring rolls , king prawns , squid and aromatic pickles. We ordered Marron for our main course and seafood marinara . Marron was grilled with garlic butter served with potatoe croquettes and ratatouille. Very clever combination as Marron is quite light but this was scrumptious. Marinara had fresh creamy rich tomato sauce with lovely prawns , scallop and squid. Lots of love went into this sauce . Dessert : Lemon posset - fresh tangy and creamy . Choc mud cake - light , not gloopy and very lovely .

Having called in for coffee and cake once before I thought this place was worth a visit again for a meal given what appeared friendly owners. With literally dozens places to eat at between Walpole and Denmark this was a bad choice. So we start with attitude service which was the warning sign to turn around given the place was empty except one table of six but still hopeful of an enjoyable meal we stayed, an hour wait for us for our meal. Our long haired attitude service person needs to tie his hair back as one of his dark locks was in my seafood pasta, another warning sign to bolt but the meal presented reasonable well, final disappointment came with the first mouthful, cold. So disappointing after the hour wait but clearly his attitude didn’t allow us to enjoy a hot or at least warm meal as it would appears our meals sat for some time on the kitchen bench. Time to pay but it would appear some of the attitude serve has run off on the owner so not even to opportunity for an apology. This experience definitely had all the elements of a bad choice, attitude, an hour wait for a simple small over priced pasta will keep us else where which is extremely disappointing as we travel this road on a monthly basis.

We were staying/sightseeing around Walpole and Nornalup and called in here at lunchtime for what we expected would be a quick bite. Clearly we had not done our homework, as the Nornabar is a fairly upmarket restaurant with prices (including wine list) to match. We had no intention of paying $30+ each for a main but luckily we had arrived just before 12.00 and so could order from the 'brunch menu', which consisted of 4 or 5 breakfast options like a 3-egg omelette, shakshuka and 'muesli parfait'. The shakshuka ($18.50) was as small as I'd every had but was very tasty. The other issue we had was the time it took for us to receive our meals, for which the waiter apologised twice, the second time as he delivered our food. And all six of us had ordered from the brunch menu, with its much simpler meals. The Nornabar might be a great place to come if you are having a celebratory dinner; it is not recommended if you are a tourist trying to also take in the local sights in the one day.

Our table of four ordered garlic bread to share while waiting for our meals. Whilst the decor and service seemed promising the food was miserly and a huge disappointment for the price. When the garlic bread arrived there were 7 TINY and very skinny little pieces of bread. Think of one thin slice of say Lawsons bread then divided into little pieces - that's what we got. They could not even bother giving us 8 little pieces so we got two each. For $11 they could have given us a half loaf and still made money. Then when the mains arrived another disaster! What was called the Hot Wok and supposed to be a Sri Lankan fried rice dish with egg, vegetables and we ordered the additional chicken ($24.50) was just a mound of rice with miniscule pieces of anything else in it that were so small you could barely see them. I reckon there was about 2 oz of chicken in mine. Taking into consideration difficulty with keep food for long and never knowing I suppose how many guests you will get is not really any excuse for miserly serves of things that are not hugely expensive to keep frozen. I can only assume that because this is the ONLY restaurant within cooee they are just ripping everyone off. No wonder the number of clients was quite small. Will never be going back there or recommending it. I wish I had told them how lousy the food was on the day and also I should have taken the garlic bread back to the kitchen and complained on the spot. We were in shock I think!

Was advised you must book, so after leaving 3 messages to no avail, called in at 2.30 on Wednesday (only 3 tables occupied) was told I havent looked at the phone yet!! Bkd for 7pm Friday, on arrival 2 tables occupied in the warm interior, we were seated in the outer area by the cold glass windows. So dark we had to lean out to be able to read menu, however they did bring over a candle for us and the other table out there. Limited dinner menu we ordered the chicken curry which was nicely presented, more of the curry and less of the rice would of been appreciated for the $30 charged. Another couple arrived about 7.30 and was told the chef had gone home, so they had to make do with a drink and dessert.!!

As teachers, we usually have to chomp down a sandwich in the 10 or 15 minutes we end up with at lunchtime. So pulling in to the Nornabar on our way to Albany was just the tonic to start truly relaxing. And we were certainly not disappointed. We shared the prawn and chicken curries which were so different and sooooo good. And the way everything was presented added to the whole experience. A glass of SSB on a warm day and we were happy as Bob's your Uncle. Bravo and thank you to one and all.

Great service and unbelievable cuisine in a tiny tiny town. The only thing that would have made the experience better would have been if it had been overlooking the nearby river. My wife and I were both very happy with our meals and my wife was in extacy eating her lemonposset.

We had been driving for a few hours among tall trees and other beautiful scenery in the deep south of Western Australia and needed a break. Nornabar was ideal as it was roadside and situated just past the Frankland River bridge. We received a friendly welcome from the owner, who seated us in a sunny spot with a nice view of the garden. On request we were given a snapshot of the history of the area. We enjoyed very good coffee and biscuits. Nornabar is recommended as an ideal place to break your drive along the Great Southern Highway.

Can only talk about the food as they catered for us while staying at the adjacent Nornalup Riverside Chalets (also v good) as part of a walking holiday organised by Auswalk. For a small cafe/restaurant in a tiny and pretty remote village the food was excellent - plentiful, delicious, fresh. Highly recommended

The Sri Lankan rice with prawns was a good bag of flavour. Specially with the accompanying Chilli oil. The seafood pasta was well served and had a good variety. Excellent service and a very calm and inviting surrounding

We heard that the Norabar had two Sri Lankan chefs, we use to live in Colombo so had to eat here. We weren’t disappointed. The Fish curry took us back to Sri Lanka and our favorite restaurant. The pineapple chutney that came with the lamb curry was beautiful. If passing through don’t miss this great cafe.

We went to the restaurant as we were staying nearby and went for two nights to have a good sample of the menu. The prawn curry was okay but lacked punch, the prawns were well cooked, the rice nice and fluffy and the popadam lacking crunch. The beef stroganoff had nice flavour but some of the beef tough. The marron dish came with one small marron, some prawns, potato mash, ratatouille and some tarragon butter. The marron was quite tasty but a little overcooked and came out of the shell a bit stringy. The combination of flavours was a bit strange but still enjoyable. The highlight was probably the fried rice which was very tasty when the chilli samba was stirred through it. We tried two desserts which were beautifully presented and tasty but very small, and a good finish to the meals.
