Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The food was delicious (one sauce too salty) and the service exceptional. Easy to order on the iPad and no trouble for Kitchen to accommodate my food intolerances.
Food arrived quickly and was thoroughly enjoyed by us both. Will be returning.

Food were average! Service was ok. Too pricey for what you get. $14 for the sake mojito which tasted more like lemonade??? A bit rich!!! Salmon Sashimi cut in cubes were very grizzly😩.

The spicy pork ramen is very tasty and the service here is quick. The prices are competitive which makes this ramen joint very good value.

Shyun is a small but busy Japanese restaurant in the Carnegie village. We have been there infrequently over the years. We Definitely won’t be going back. Firstly – the tables are small and close together, so the place can be crowded and noisy if everyone is trying to talk. And of course with covid, everyone is sitting almost on top of each other – you don’t know who you are sitting next to. Secondly – there’s no comfortable chairs, but metal stools instead. Ouch. Thirdly – one of the water glasses that was given to us, actually plastic, was dirty. We should have left right then. But it gets worse. I ordered a beef don – the meat that was put in front of me was, in a word, disgusting. Mostly fat – no effort had been made to trim it off. It was just inedible rubbish – so I didn’t eat it. How dare the “chef” even have the nerve to serve up such disgusting rubbish? I literally wouldn’t feed this meat to my dog. Disgusting quality meat – and a disgusting attitude that they could put it in front of a customer. I got home and was actually sick – not from eating this meat, which I didn’t, but from the thought that someone had the nerve to serve this rubbish to a paying customer.
If you are going there and intend to have any sort of meat meal – don’t.

We came at midday just as they opened, the menu looked promising, easy to order as all meals were pictured.
My partner ordered the wagyu steak don and I asked how is it cooked, waitress replied medium rare, the picture showed a piece of steak on rice with a few little lettuce leaves.
I ordered pork Katsu don, as well as a chawan mushi for entree
We were astonished that within 5 minutes our meals arrived, not the chawan mushi
My pork schnitzel was very dark and shrivelled, I believe it was a reheated leftover from the previous day
My partner’s steak had no resemblance to a steak, it was a disgusting mess of shredded meat and fat
I asked about the chawan mushi and was told it wan not ready, obviously the only part of the meal being cooked for us
The waitress acknowledged that the steak was nothing like represented in the menu and we were not charged for it and as a sweetener given 5% discount on the rest
As a frequent traveler to Japan, and knowing this restaurant is Japanese owned I was bitterly disappointed that it bore no resemblance to the standard of genuine Japanese cuisine.

Have eaten here a few times and never disappointed. Extensive menu ordered from ipad which is very easy to use. Staff are very attentive , and efficient which is not easy for a restaurant that is very busy. Some tables on the street outside, as well a the main front room, benches along the passage and another room at the rear - so we have never had an issue with getting a table. Like most of the eateries in Carnegie people are there for tea, not to linger over a leisurely dinner so tables turn over quickly. I ordered bento, comes with salad, rice and potato and then you order the protein. Very generous servings of tempura and karaage chicken were delicious. Husband enjoyed his Katsu Don chicken. Loved the pumpkin croquettes. Two soft drinks as well and bill came to $42. Great value.

Please Mr Japanese chef, can you not add too much sugar to your teriyaki beef and fried stuff in your Bento Box.
I have been to Tokyo heaps and don t recall their food being so sweet. Nor Singapore where I have been many times.
Please note I m not referring to their sushi which is ok as with ramen.
Please don't over rate as create false expectations !

We booked a week in advance as we knew from friends it was difficult to get a table. We were told at the time of the booking that we would be sitting in the front section per our request. Except when we came, they made various excuses and showed us out the back. Which was perfectly nice as well but not what we wanted as we like to watch the passing traffic.
To order, we had to use a very annoying iPad with software that didn't allow us the flexibility to order properly. Eventually I got fed up and asked to order in the normal manner, face to face. This was an issue for the waitress and another came to assist.
I ordered the Deluxe Bento and made vey clear that I did not want any Mayonnaise either on or in my food. Except when the food arrived, the sushi contained Mayonnaise. I pointed this out, but the "waitress" stated it could not be altered and I should just not eat it. I said thats fine, we will then leave without eating or paying anything. However another waitress intervened to swap the sushi for sushi without Mayonnaise. It would not have mattered how good the food was, the damage was done. Objectively it wasn't that nice, my wife's choices were oily and the Teriyaki far too salty.

The restaurant's decor was cute and cozy. The ordering system (tablets) was very easy to use and the food came promptly once ordered. The staff were very friendly and the dishes were presented extremely well. Visually stunning. Will be back.

We lunched here a couple of days ago with some friends and it was up to its usual very high standard in every respecr. Courteous service, huge menu and absolutely delicious food. I visit Shyun every couple of months and have brought many different people with me - without exception, everyone has been delighted with their experience. The food is always very fresh and tasty and there's a wide variety of dishes which cater for all preferences. It's also very good value. Can highly recommend. You'll need to book in the evening as this is one of the most popular restaurants in Carnegie.

Given that you order on the ipad, can’t really say much about service but the food is alright. Not super authentic Japanese but you get a good value

Shyun is one of our favourite local restaurants. High quality and fresh food. It is not a restaurant that you linger in, it is eat and leave but always feeling satisfied. The staff are friendly and there is always a warm welcome and an acknowledgement when leaving. Highly recommend the ramen.

This place is always, always packed. I know why.
Food is amazing, prices good and atmosphere electric.
It’s not a place for a romantic, quiet evening. This is Japanese dining in it’s true form. You are literally sitting next to the next table.
You order from IPads when you want, then boom it’s there. Staff are frantic but wonderful, chefs amazing churning out Sushi and sashimi to order.
Food is fresh, fish is divine, and portions are generous.
You order, as your appetite dictates. You can be as quick or as slow as you want.
One tip. Book.
You won’t be disappointed.
