Great quality of food and service

Several years since we dined at Charntra, because it was always so hard to get a booking - that gives a hint about the quality of the establishment and food. Dined on a Saturday night as a family of 4 and pleased to say that unlike so many restaurants that appear with a bang and then fold, Charntra is still around and their food is as good as it was about 8 years ago. Chartntra is destined to become a legend on the Camberwell dining scene - and it is well justified.

Returned to Chantra for dinner. We ordered prawn spring rolls for entree, very nice. Main meals were delicious with good servings size. Service very good. This place is on our regular list. Prices excellent.

Nice but not authentic

The meals are tasty and fresh but not authentic. They use western ingredients instead of Asian vegetables. I have been to Thailand and this is not the same. Staff was very friendly and patrons all westerners.

Great Thai food at Reasonable price

Stumbled across this great little Thai place that offers real Thai food at a reasonable price along with friendly service. Certainly worth a try if in the area.

Lovely food

I visit Charntra often and their food is beautiful, I'm never disappointed. I often get takeaways but eating in is lovely too. Good atmosphere in the restaurant for a night out with a few friends or family.

Going downhill!!

We have eaten in-house and had takeaway on many occasions with a large number of friends. The food in past has been excellent quality and value, recently we have had several bad experiences. On two occasion we have had Pad Thai, dry noodles, few flavors added, no greenery and tough prawns, basically a lump of dry noodles. We have enjoyed their prawn cakes in the past, they have now changed from lovely light cakes with chunks of prawn to a sort of congealed mass of unknown ingredients and also increased the price. What a pity! The decor is fine, the service quiet. There are clearly better Thai restaurants in the area. Sorry we will not go where we are offloaded poor quality food, dressed up as Classic Thai

Inexpensive tasty Thai food at local venue

Small intimate Thai restaurant offering a wide range of traditional foods with the great advantage of being BYO so could enjoy wines of our own choice, Pleasant get together with friends in a convivial atmosphere. Chef able to handle a variety of food allergies and direct us to many menu items.

Back to a favourite

Having been to Chantra Thai many times, the return visit is just a pleasure. The dishes are very flavoursome and quite inexpensive - my favourites are the Massaman beef curry, the green curry & the yellow curry. My partner loves the pad thai. The roti is also a fantastic little treat to add when finishing off the delicious currys. All in all, great place - great value (we tend to have 4 mains, enough rice for all, roti and maybe a couple of drink - you'll probably pay about $100 for all of that) ..... we will return many more times.

This restaurant is a terrific local restaurant. The food is always freshly made, staff is friendly and it is BYO. I bring visitors here on a regular basis and they all speak highly of it.

Friendly local restaurant

Food never disappoints and helpings are very generous. Service is good and staff are very friendly. It is also one of the few local restaurants open on a Monday night.

Great food at great prices

We are regular diners at this thai restaurant with freshly made food and sauces. Always great service - we have taken all our interstate and overseas visitors there for a meal and they come away raving about the great food. Highly recommended. Also BYO and no corkage. You can also buy drinks there too

Great value lovely food

This is a great restaurant for a quick midweek meal or with friends on the weekend. Just love this place food is lovely, massman curry is lovely, crispy noodle duck stir fry and seafood with deep fried egg bean curd are favourites! It's not expensive we usually come out full as a goog for 35 a head

Expected much better

We had had lots of good recommendations for this Thai restaurant but were sadly disappointed. The money bags were tasty, the coconut rice was fluffy and in plentiful supply but the red curry duck could have done with a bit more 'zing' and The papaya salad was very ordinary. The service was excellent - up until they whisked the plates away while I was still picking at the salad (and they took the napkin before I could wipe my hands).

Fantastic local

Thank god the Fat Man has gone, he scared a lot of customers away, and was quite embarrassing for the poor owner/chef, Charntra, who still hand makes all her entrees, curries and sauces. The Red Curry Duck is to die for, the Duck Spring Rolls are outstanding, and the Pad See Ew or Spicy Noodles with Duck are recommended (yes, I love duck as much as Charntra).

Food is the highlight

Have been here several times over the last few years for dinner with my family. Most recent visit was on a Friday night and fortunately we had booked as the restaurant was busy. Service was friendly and efficient. The menu and food are the highlight and we enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. Prices seem to have increased recently but are still reasonable and no corkage charge is a bonus. We plan to return and do not miss the previous 'host' who was somewhat intrusive!
