This eating place have VERY limited seats (say about 16?) so I would recommend you to Q outside their shop before it opens. We ordered toast, curry rice and coffee and they let us choose (from too many beautiful cups) which cup we want to...drink from! That was unexpected. Totally love the quiet ambience, services and decorations - it is like taking a good break away from the crowded village outside. Enjoyed an awesome lunch!More

Having read the reviews, I made sure we got there by noon. We got the last table and after we sat down i saw a line forming outside Set in one of the gassho farmhouses, its small and quaint inside. And it looked like it...was a family operation, with the wife and others servicing and the older gentlemen (who looks many years older than in some of the photos) behind the counter washing the cups and glasses and making the coffee and other drinks. They only serve about 20 people at a time. And it’s a very limited menu. The set menu was the best deal…and a lot of food. Vegetable curry rice ..which was a huge helping, plus the sweet bean dessert and a drink. The curry was terrific. The lady serving us asked if I wanted more but I was full. I was not sure if she was offering me more for free or not but it seemed like she was offering more ...like refilling your water glass. Amazing For my drink I ordered an iced café latte and watched as the elder man behind the counter slowly poured the coffee on top of the milk so it would not mix together so it would be served layered. He concentrated so hard and did it so slowly. It worked. Even though there was a line outside with people waiting, we were not rushed and felt we were having a meal at a family friends house.More

Wonderful experience and delicious food in traditional building. They only serve one dish which is curry and rice. The rice is a mix of ancient grains and the curry sauce is very tasty topped with pickled vegetables. For tea you select your choice of cup...from multitude of cups hanging throughout which is a charming touch. Can’t recommend enough.More

Without tripadvisor we would have probably just walked past this place. We had to wait a bit outside because the space inside is quite limited - but it was was well worth it. The place is run by a friendly couple. Rice and curry were...superb (thats their only main course), as were the sweet beans for desert. If you choose a warm drink, you can pick one of the many cups hanging all around the restaurant and get your beverage with a matching saucer and spoon.More

.. not too happy about that. The house does look interesting. I guess they get busy.. but still. There is no waiting area to speak of, you stand on narrow stairs. All in all, seems severely overrated.

Not sure if the interior is authentic but it is nicely decorated, making a wonderful place to take your meal or just to have a cup of coffee or tea. The restaurant opens at 1120 and we were first in the queue. By the time...we got through our food, the restaurant has sold out their curry rice! The menu is simple, curry rice (one type), coffee, tea, red bean dessert. You could also order a set which consist of curry rice, coffee/tea and free flow dessert.More

It's a cafe in a Gassho-style house. The menu is small -- just curry rice, coffee or tea. But it's understandable because it's run by an elderly couple without any additional staff. They have to keep the menu small to be efficient. It's always full...and you should expect to wait for at least 20 minutes during lunch hours. The curry is delicious and you can refill your red bean soup as many times as you want. You get to pick your favourite cups and that's a perk.More

Ochiudo literally means refugees. The hosts, very nice Japanese couples, explained in terms of historic civil war of the past resulted in winner and the losers - ochiudo. We travellers are not losers but we are quite similar to refugee. Wandering from one place to...another. The hosts shows their generosity by offered g free flow of red bean soup, as long as you have order a drink or a meal. Very nice ambience in a traditional gassho house. Sitting in there you could appreciate how the internal structure of such house Have a quiet afternoon there. Please don't come in with more than 6 pee group.More

We stopped here without seeing any recommendations and stumbled across the perfect spot for a cup of tea, a rest and wonderful hospitality. Within seconds of climbing down the stairs we were seated around a traditional fireplace, offered English menus, and books showing magnificent pictures...of Shirakawa-go while we wait for our tea. The pride and love for the town and their cafe was evident on the couple looking after us and in retrospect, we made a mistake not returning here for lunch.More
