Nice local pub with music nights too. Stayed in Box for the weekend and had dinner here which was nice, no frills but was nice and good service. Portions were massive so probably could have shared the stir fry but can't complain!

Lovely homemade offerings - especially Gianni's lasagne!!! Lots of events on too, local bands on Saturdays and a monthly music event called Schtumm which has hosted many famous faces over the years! Overall, a great place to call your local pub even if you're not actually a local! It's well worth the visit every time you're in the area 😊

Four retired colleagues chose the The Queen's Head in Box for our regular lunchtime meet up. The Queen's is like pubs used to be, nothing fancy just a matured atmosphere which can only be created over the years. Three of us chose Courage's Best with the third choosing Guinness for our drinks. All excellently kept. They had two menu's plus... More

The atmosphere of the pub was warm and friendly, there was even a hotel cat! The food was superb and the service was prompt and professional.

Took over an hour an a half to get a portion of chips and then there were about 6 chips in the bottom of the dish. I was so hungry I had to go buy junk from Box Petrol Station.

Please accept my apologies for this unusual experiece. I am hazarding a guess that we had a live music event on that night, in which case, there would have been a much higher number of people eating than we would get on a regular night and therefore waiting time relative to this. Also (though not an excuse you want to... More

We stopped in on our way by and received great service. The staff was pleasant and looked after us, even though there were a lot of local guests and we were just tourists. The food was delicious and very fair price. I had carrot soup and my husband had the Ground Steak special! Very good! Lovely atmosphere, very pleasant.

I called for lunch prior to walking along the MacMillan Way and fortunately it was Monday where I had a two course lunch for £6, probably the best value meal I have ever had. All the essentials were there: hot water in clean toilets, friendly atmosphere and an excellent home cooked meal.

We stopped off here on the off-chance and were wonderfully surprised - staff were friendly and helpful; food was beautifully cooked - best beef I've had in ages, great desserts; atmosphere and interior was warm and pleasant. All very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
