Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Terrible service, shockingly horrible over priced tasteless greasy food. Take away shops in Woy and Umina are better and a 1/4 or the price. View would be nice if it wasn’t obstructed by rows of parked cars. My advice, get some local takeaway and make...a picnic of it on the sand by the waterMore

We are locals and have been to The Boathouse many time over many years, we dropped in today for lunch. Shared the kingfish ceviche as a starter.. it was totally disappointing . Clunky chunks of kingfish in a bland marinade. Ceviche should be a delicate...dish that sings with flavour, this was underwhelming and with a hefty price of $27 for a minuscule amount of kingfish, bulked up with cos lettuce, it was a joke. We then shared the fish and chips. Just what it said... oily battered fish with horrible potato starch wedges, not real potato. Yuck! Not even a lettuce leaf or a bit of cucmber as a garnish, again for nearly $30 it was awful. I wonder what has gone wrong here, I’m thinking they are just counting on the tourist dollar and not caring about return customers. Either way it’s a shame but they won’t get us back!More

A stunning location and great breakfast. Overlooking the magnificent Pittwater, it is a perfect place for breakfast. The menu is comprehensive. The coffee is great. On our visit, it was raining but it is still a magnificent location. It does get very busy and the...wait to order can take a while at the counter but the service is very rapid. The food we had was great. I had lunch here some time ago and it was also very good.More

A great place to eat. The setting is excellent. We had the prawns and fish and chips. And was all good. My only negative is people bring their dogs into the restaurant. I’m SC dog person but do not agree with them in a place...where food is being consumed.More

After many great experiences here, things seem to have taken a turn. Normally good portion sizes and friendly staff, we were met with lukewarm coffee and flavourless chai - not their normal standard. The avocado toast had a scraping of avocado and some offensively strong...feta. Just one slice for £19? Then mushrooms on toast with scrambled eggs and another with poached were another let down. The eggs were chewy, cold and hard boiled respectively. The bathrooms were a mess, one of the male staff members taking his sweet time in the female toilet, leaving it in a state. This was a go-to place when in Sydney, but it’s really let itself down and is not worth the extortionate prices for the (lack of) service and quality.More

Not bad food, location is as described. Self service is an odd one, and the imminent seagull attack can be off putting. Just an ok meal with very little service. What’s the big deal?

The Boathouse Catering we ordered for our stay in Avalon was absolutely wonderful. It was easy to order, delivery was easily done and easy to serve. Last but not least the food and quality was de-licious! Will definitely use them again.

We visited here on a Wednesday for lunch with a small hungry child. The service was outstanding. We were seated quickly and the order put through straightaway. Delightful setting - pity about the very windy day! Great food - beer battered fish and chips and...a child’s separate serving. Lovely setting and we could see the Barrenjoey Lighthouse in the distance. Very pleasant overall experience.More

As a somewhat local, we've eaten here a few time previously, the last time maybe 18 months ago which was a dismal visit - I think it was operating as Patonga Beach Hotel. Bumbling, useless staff, kitchen out of several dishes, dessert unavailable because "kitchen...is closed now". It has changed hands (or the earlier visit visit the new owners were still in their infancy of ownership) and was a huge difference. Attentive staff, whole new bar area, efficient kitchen. Food is excellent and the foods comes out pretty quick after ordering. We were slightly disappointed upon arriving that there was a queue to get in but arriving at the tail-end of lunch the line moved quick and we were seated within 30 mins. I only have one negative comment - the prices are ridiculous. 2 examples...i) the nachos is $19. A fair price albeit slightly on the exe side. I ordered it anyway and the order-taker asked "would I like meat with that for $12 more?" Eh? You mean a nachos is really $31? Pfft, I'll order something else thanks. Got the chicken schnitty which was a bit dry but otherwise OK. Example 2. I ordered a soft drink at the bar (generally soft drinks are what? $4? $5? Heck maybe $6? Try $10!More
