Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I tried the Sunday night paella and sangria which was cooked perfectly with ample seafood. The staff are great, cocktails amazing and the atmosphere relaxed and enjoyable. Would highly recommend!

What a delightful lunch. We wanted a light lunch, and the Dunes menu was perfect for us. We had natural oysters, scallop ceviche, fried calamari and prawns, all of which were very fresh and beautifully prepared. Service from the all-female crew was delightful and a...Chardonnay from Victoria completed a perfect lunch.More

We are locals and had previously been to Dunes and had a pretty ordinary experience due to the service but thought maybe it was because of the amount of people right on midday so we thought we would give them another go. We booked for...lunch and purposefully made it a later booking (2.15pm) so we could beat the rush. Whilst many of the big groups were wrapping up, the noise level for an open restaurant was extraordinary due to the loud, drunken people. Couple seated next to us ended up sitting beside each other because they couldn't hear themselves talk across a small table. I love a lively restaurant but this was not that. It was excruciating. Waited 20 minutes before someone took our order. Another 15 minutes before a drink arrived. Then, another 15 before entree. Entrees were OK. Then, we waited 45 minutes- nothing. We had to flag down the server and ask where our mains were. We were told chef would be working on it, which generally means kitchen has forgotten the order. We wait another 15 and we watch as many dishes come out of the kitchen but none of them ours. So, adding this up we are almost at the 2 hour point and have had drinks served and entree. So we decided to get up and leave. We go to the cashier and 'maitre d' tells us that she will check on the dishes. By this stage, we are over it and still hungry and told her that we will just take the bill please. To their credit they refunded two of our entrees and didnt charge us for the mains but we walked out of there hungry and with a feeling we had wasted our time. We don't get a lot of free time together and this was meant to be a relaxing time to reconnect over a nice meal. If you are a big, boozy group maybe this place is worth it, but we will never be back. I certainly have better things to do.More

We loved the atmosphere, loved the choice of delightful dishes! Great wine too. One thing – and we noted to our waitress – one of the kingfish orders was fairly overcooked which was too bad. But everything else was perfect and the staff just wonderful....We’ll be back – often! 😊More

Had a takeaway lunch here whilst the markets were on. Nice range of food and drinks available - for both adults and kids. Great spot too.

It was the most perfect autumn day and Dunes was the perfect choice for a bite of lunch. The open- air restaurant has a very beachy but upmarket feel. The choices on the menu are relatively limited for carnivores with the emphasis on seafood e.g.,...scallops, calamari, octopus, prawns, barramundi etc. As we'd had a large breakfast we chose the small plates - prawns with fried saganaki (cheese) in a tomato-ey sauce and bbq octopus on a hommos base. Both dishes were smashingly good. Service was friendly and efficient.More

We had a brilliant lunch here. We had a selection of small plates and all were full of flavour, with unique touches to the garnishes and combination of flavours. My favourite was the maple flavoured carrots.

Arrived for lunch at 1oclock Sunday after a long wait for our entrees of oysters to arrive the main meal turned up, that went back as we waited for the elusive oysters to turn up. 2.45 finally here and what a pathetic sight! At $6.00...each you would expect a nice plump oyster but that was not too be. They were so small it must of been an embarrassment to serve them. 6 x 48 = $144.00 !! Now to warrant a price tag like that you need have the best! Apart from all that the staff made up for the food delays and minute oysters. Will go back again, great spot, just don’t throw your money away on those oysters. EricMore

There was a group of us on the weekend for lunch I ordered a Gnocchi with Mushrooms and Truffle sauce It came to the table and the Gnocchi was swimming in oil . There was not even a hint of truffle either smell or taste....The Gnocchi was quite burned on the underside but the texture was relatively light . Would have been better tasting and texture if not burned. It was disappointingMore

Staff went out of their way to help celebrate our mums 92nd birthday. Sparklers on her dessert without us even requesting this. Such a relaxing atmosphere - love the open air sides - keeps everyone felling safer in these Covid times. A disabled bathroom is...another very helpful addition for our mum. Our food was delicious and the service was very caring & friendly. Great coffee too. Love The Dunes. We'll be back.More

We came here for dinner to celebrate my friends birthday. Service was quirky with an over familiar waitress who talked too much but she was nice. Menu is very large but no specials. We both had the calamari to start which was very tasty but...not presented very well at all. Mains - i had the gnocchi and friend had the kingfish. Both dishes looked lovely and were tasty but the gnocchi was soooo salty. I love salt but I found it too much. Wine list hard to read as no locations of wineries listed. Dessert for friend was limoncello tiramisu which was more like lemon meringue pie. At more that $250 not a cheap meal with random service.More

Over many years, Dunes has been the “go-to” place for my wife and I and our extended family. No longer! The variety and standard of food now on offer is greatly inferior to that of the past. Following a $200+ lunch on April 21, we...will never return and will be advising friends and family to give the “new” Dunes a wide berth. Why? 1. Service deplorable: Took 20 minutes for a simple request for water and two glasses of wine to arrive and then only upon getting our own water and asking again for our wine. 2. No starters, bread or salads available on the menu. No salads!! Unbelievable! 3. Entrees (so-called “small plates”) were almost cold. My wife’s zucchini flowers were lukewarm and lacking flavour. My calamari was tough and chewy and saved only by the sauce. Had better in fish and chip shops! 4. Mains: Crab linguini was acceptable in taste but sloppy with no toast or bread to soak up the sauce. For $34, my wife’s roasted tiger prawns consisted of 2 butterflied prawns with no accompaniment. As a side dish, the dutch carrots were tasty but had poor texture. 5. Dessert: White chocolate pavlova was very nice but came from a very sparse dessert menu. General Comment: The deterioration from the previous Dunes is starkly obvious. Looking back over its previous wonderful menus and comparing them to what is now on offer is almost heart-breaking! This new Dunes has little right to use that title as it is just not the same and is pretending to be Dunes without the quality, service and ambience. The real Dunes has gone. R.I.P. It is now dead to us. Ian Roberts WarriewoodMore
