When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food is delicious and well presented. Loved the steak tartare, calamari, bone marrow and prawn cocktails. The rainbow trout and steak frites was really good too.

The style of the Restaurant is quite nice and we enjoyed the get together in Palm Beach. At first I was surprised about the competitive prices, expecting it to be a bit more expensive, but after the waitress carefully mentioned if we would like some...sides with our Mains I understood the pricing. I don't agree with the "modern concept": Main course is (in my case) Ora King Salmon, with Beurre Blanc... No vegetables, no salad, no sides at all - as written on the Menu. That is not a "Main course" but a Main ingredient,... I would rather pay $60 for a thought through Main course, rather than have a waitress in an embarrassing voice trying to make us order sides, because she was aware about what is being served... I think, it is rather frustrating for guests, to receive only half Mains than paying more and getting an entire meal, but that's up to management. So much about that; Now, except of that disappointment I have to say, the chefs did a great job, perfectly cooked fish, and the food was great, the waiters did a great job, bar was a bit slow, we got food before drinks, even though we ordered drinks first - we could also say very fast kitchen .More

Delightful boutique style accommodation in Palm Beach directly opposite the water. The interiors are very much the beach vibe - sensational shell mirrors, large cushions on plump sofas and perfectly appointed rooms with an ensuite. The ‘help yourself breakfast’ is healthy and adequate to kick...off your day. There’s no concierge so pack light or you will be lugging up 23 kgs of luggage to your room (fortunately I travel with my own Butler - the husband). There’s not a lot of food options for late lunch mid week in the area so you will probably find yourself having lunch and dinner here too so you can try a number of the seafood options on offer. Try the scallops - delicious. Staff are young, friendly and helpful.More

We chose to take amid week getaway to Palm Beach and stayed at Barrenjoey House. The rooms were beautifully furnished in the 'Boathouse Group' typical style. There's great attention to detail and quality hospitality. Room four has a stunning view. We ate several nights in...the restaurant and it was terrific - Highly recommend. There's a private terrace upstairs guests can enjoy a private drink or enjoy the hubub in the bar below. Breakfast, although a simple, self-serve affair was included. The guest house is right across form the Ferry and on the bus route to getting about is a delight. Staff were always cheery, professional and welcoming.More

This was so disappointing. The spot was lovely opposite a park on the water however the food was less than ordinary and very overpriced. I don’t mind paying if the food is good but it wasn’t. Even my granddaughters watermelon juice tasty a bit musty?...Couldn’t fault the waitress she was polite and attentive.More

Extremely poor service . Waited 30 min to order dessert and left as no one was bothered to take the order . Poor experience on our anniversary dinner. Never going back . The 11 dollar prawn toast tasty eggy with no flavour . When I...told the waitress about the wait for dessert she completely ignored and shoved the payment at me to tap . No wonder the ratings are dropping .More

It was my birthday and all I really wanted was some half way decent seafood. Barenjoey House had a rave review in the SMH which used to be a reliable newspaper once and the restaurant has had something of a reputation as a pricey but...dependable seafood restaurant. At least the former was right. It was 6.30 and the place was almost empty empty . The decor was a surprise; Bali Beach Bar meets American Diner. The staff were young and seemed inexperienced but pleasant enough. My wife and I ordered seared scallops as a starter and we decided n the market fish of the day , beer battered and my wife ordered a tuna linguine. After some time the waitress came back to announced that there was “ no fish and chips “ I expressed some surprise that a fancy fish and chippy had no fish and surveyed the very limited and somewhat ordinary menu. I remembered that the SMH review had high praise for the prawn cocktail and in a fit of 70s nostalgia , more in desperation than hope ordered that as my main course. The seared scallops arrived in due course. Three of them each on the shell sitting amongst vividly coloured blobs of some sort of purée or sauce that was not totally pleasant and which overwhelmed the far too lightly seared scallops. The main course arrived. My wife said the linguine was passable but not as good as she could make at home. I had been musing about Fawlty Towers before the main course arrived but the prawn cocktail immediately turned my thoughts to Woody Allen. “There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions." The prawn cocktail was not a small portion and that was NOT a good thing. The prawns were plentiful tough , chewy and not fresh, the sauce tasted like the orange stuff you buy in a supermarket and there was a blob of green stuff my wife though might be avocado. There was a mountain of shredded lettuce underneath. We decided to cut and run rather than try desert. The bill… Just under $200 for the food, two beers and two glasses of rather nice Prosecco.More

I hate doing bad reviews and I feel bad about doing this one, but I just want to avoid people having a similar experience to us. I had eaten at Barrenjoey House recently - but just a couple of plates sitting outside on a Friday...lunch and it was perfectly pleasant and acceptable. Last night Hubbie and I were looking for a romantic, high end place for a special evening and my older memories of BH were that it was just that - high end, special, sophisticated and worth dressing up for. Our experience last night did not reflect those older memories of how BH used to be. The service was excellent - from the male maitre d' who greeted us, through to young Jess who served us. Excellent, friendly, accommodating and professional service. They were let down by back of house unfortunately. We ordered the kingfish sashimi and, no word of a lie, either me or hubbie could have put together a better dish. The kingfish was coarse, thickly cut, warm and looked like it had been dropped onto the plate from a height, rather than artfully arranged. Hubbie's hot dish of scallops featured lukewarm, fairly tasteless, boring scallops with a smudge of tasteless pumpkin puree. Below average. His steak was marginally better and my Murray cod was overcooked and tasteless. Worse than the flavours are the prices. BH may have decided to go a bit more downmarket - think your local mexican restaurant with flaming candles and staff singing happy birthday multiple times (it's owned now by the Boathouse group), but they didn't bring the prices down with them. If I'm paying $18 for a tiny side dish of charred broccolini or a couple of tomatoes on a plate, then I want the upmarket experience that goes with those prices. Go to Rosa in Mona Vale instead if you want tangy, fresh flavours and equally excellent service. You won't get the view or the ambiance, but I'm all about the food and Barrenjoey House just doesn't deliver decent food.More

Last week we had a wonderful experience here and we went back tonight to try and repeat it. Last week we were shown to the best available table of some 10 which were available. This time we were shown to the worst table in the...restaurant. Before sitting down we asked if we could sit at one of the six or so tables which were far better than ours, but we were told that these were being kept for people who had booked before we did. Very unusual. After five minutes I realised that the wine bucket for another table was wedged between the back of my chair and the wall and was stopping my chair from sitting square with the table and I asked for this to be removed. When the people in the adjacent table left we noticed that their table was then moved half a metre away from us and the waitress confirmed that our table was in the wrong spot and would also be moved half a metre to make it comfortable once we left. In addition, whilst there are a lot of bottles of San Pellegrino on display, when you order a bottle of sparkling water one gets Santa Victoria, which is under $2 a bottle in the supermarket and vastly inferior. The food was good, but as a dining experience it was awful. We tipped well last week but explained to the waitress why we would not be tipping tonight. As there is no way on the Internet to request a nice table then it should be done on a first come basis.More
