The meal took a long time in coming. Other patrons who came after us were experiencing the same delay. The emphasis in this restaurant seems to be the takeaways which flew out the door. When our meal finally arrived, we were promised more injera bread,...which did not come before we had finished the meal. The vegetarian food we ordered was very bland and unimaginative, mainly starch (white rice, potato and sweet potato pieces). Not great value for money.More
Last night we ate at the Ethiopia Down Under restaurant again. We love it there. The food is always generous and tasty, the owners and staff are friendly and helpful, and there is a fun informal atmosphere. We will continue to patronise this great local...restaurant.More
Only n waiting staff member on Valentine's day, but brilliant food. I could not fault the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I would have rated this place as worthy of 5 stars if the service had been just that little bit quicker. I was fantastic. What...a terrific little diamond this place is.More
We had some delicious food, here, with cups of tea (that arrived at the wrong end of the meal) or coffee (that arrived quite late). The waiting staff seemed to be struggling to keep up, but was completely polite and helpful.
We ordered goat Tibbs,...beef Kay wat, chicken coconut and mixed vegetables in a coconut sauce, with injera and extra injera. The injera is a bread but reminded me of crepes or thin pancakes.
Everything was delicious, although the goat was a bit monotonous in flavor and there's a lot of meat, with little veg. The vegetarian found the mixed vegetables boring.More
We arrived at Ethiopia Down Under early and were greeted with a very friendly face. Took us through the various options on the menu, and then we ordered an entrée, salad, and for mains vegetable, chicken, beef, and goat. Finished with coffee, and also had...home-made ginger beer during the meal. Really good tasty meal. As this is a small restaurant, be prepared to take your time over your meal - but it is worth it. Like to go back next time to try the Mosob.More
Very well cooked meat and deliciously spiced sauces. The website said that Ethiopian cuisine is spicy but not hot. This is an apt explanation of the food there. I love chilli but my partner does not, yet we could both share each other’s meals. Cannot...recommend highly enough. A gem amongst Canberra’s restaurant scene that all seems to be vaguely the sameMore
The whole restaurant has finished eating. I had to ask where our food was after ordering and waiting over an hour. Worth it? No bloody way, don’t waste your time.More
