Drive all the way to Fitzroy from Knox and what a trip it was worth!!! Staff were working like a sophisticated team and very friendly and patient while I asked about certain selections. The blue cheese and Artisan cheese were amazing. The tuna salad needs...no rating other than flavourful. Brisket, turkey and Korean bbq ribs hands down worth every dollar spent. The best item I purchased was the marinated fish fillet. This was the nearest to a fillet of fish I have ever tried. Can’t wait for the restaurant to launch and your dine in at Smith and Daughter. Highly recommend.More

What a great dinner! We went with some friends on a Sat night for the banquet menu with matched wines. Having never been, I was worried the service could be a bit indifferent, but this definitely wasn’t the case - it was warm, friendly and...helpful. The range of food in the banquet was interesting and there wasn’t a dish l didn’t enjoy. The matched drinks were good fun and included a range of cocktails and wines. The banquet was priced at $80 pp and matched drinks $40 pp. We’re recently vegetarian, so it was a great change being able to go somewhere and not have to worry about a limited selection of dishes. Only thing to possibly improve would be to soften the lighting in parts of the restaurant and bump the heating, it was a bit draughty. It had good acoustics when we were there too, bonus! So pleased to have given it a try and l would definitely return!More

Back again after such lovely memories of dining here a couple of years ago and so delighted we did. Fantastic 12 course degustation with every morsel tastier than the last culminating in the highlight dessert of Turkish coffee and cardamom mousse. Simply fabulous friendly and...efficient service and their recommended Two Birds pale ale complemented our food extremely well. Will keep coming back here and have recommended it to all our friends, family and colleagues.More

Although initially non plussed by the dark interior, brunch was peaceful and without the loud music mentioned in the other reviews. Staff were pleasant and efficient and the breakfast pizza unique and delicious. Will return.

We had an excellent vegan Saturday brunch here. We ordered the pizza and meatball sub and both were great!

Unfortunately this restaurant just didn’t wow me enough. The food and concept was incredible but the whole experience was let down by the rude customer service and extremely unpleasant faces. No smiles, personalities of a wet flannel and a chip on their shoulders. If that’s...what you’re in to go ahead but for me it’s a no.More

Wonderful food. We went at last minute as we didn’t have any plans. Restaurant was full but they took our number and text us when a table was available. The food was delicious; my meat eating husband actually said it was the best meal he’d...had whilst in Australia. We had antipasti to start with to share and I had the meatballs and the were amazing, didn’t taste like meat which i liked that. My husband had carbonara and he couldn’t get over the ‘runny egg yolk’ in the centre. A bit smokey in taste and not as good as meatballs.More

As a non vegan I must say the food is excellent. However, customer service needs a bit of work. I arriver early for a 6 pm booking (5.45pm)its pouring rain. I’m told I cannot come in until 6. In the next 5 minutes another 14...people arrive with nowhere to stand but in the rain. Finally when I get in to the restaurant it is obvious that the staff have a bit of a chip on their shoulders. This needs to change.More

I love Shannon Martinez and all the great things she and her business partner are doing for vegan food. It's been some time since I've visited the restaurant and I have to say, I was extremely disappointed with the service and attitude of the staff....I was met with a grumpy looking girl who showed me to the communal tables and I told her I was early as I was meeting a friend. I sat there for about a half hour and nobody asked me if I wanted a drink. When I eventually flagged someone down, they were dismissive and acted like I was a real nuisance. I get this is a hipster kind of place but please turn the music down a little to enable good conversation and ask the waiting staff to smile at customers. Food was good as I expected and my friend said she enjoyed hers. Overall though, it was a bit stressful because of the staff attitude. I know Smith & Daughters is a bit of a legend in Melbourne but I don't think people will return too often when they're treated as badly as we were. Once you start believing your own publicity and ignoring great customer service, your whole product is tarnished.More
