Had brunch here with 2 friends, it's in the rear of 412 Brunswick St so we missed it on the first pass before backtracking. Started with a couple of very good Bloody Maries then ordered the soft shell crab burger, king prawns benedict and bacon, eggs & avocado on toast. All was going well until I asked for Tabasco to... When your stuck for a brunch place to go - Hammer and Tong is a great spot. Surrounded by one of Melbourne's more chill and alternative neighborhoods, Hammer & Tong is great for a food and coffee pitstop. Anything avocado is generally good and the soft shell crab burger is also a winner. In typical Melbourne fashion, staff are laid... More

This place is impressive. Urban hipster Fitzroy cool, friendly staff, good coffee, etc - but it's the food that's the highlight. The spinach beignets with zucchini flower, haloumi and salad on an eggplant chutney was sensational. We'll be going back as soon as possible!!

Caught up with friends over brunch at this place. Had to wait for a while on the Saturday but they were so apologetic, they even gave us dessert for us for free! The menu is very creative. I ordered the ox cheek benedict. The ox cheek was full of flavor, perfect match with the poached egg, hollandaise sauce & the... More

This place is hard to spot from the street, inside is nicely presented and the staff were warm and welcoming. They have an All Day Menu with plenty of irresistible options to keep you coming back. I had the Breakfast Ramen and my wife had the Zucchini Garden Beignets, both were fantastic! One of the best brunches we've ever experienced,... More

Had a late lunch for three during the week. Just walked in off the street, no problems finding a table. Menu was small but innovative and everything was good. Service was fast and friendly and the servings were large! We had the Chilli Scrambled Eggs with fries and relish as extras ($18 + $6) - very tasty, only problem was... More

Genuinely interesting, innovative "all-day" menu and good coffee. Their twist on the deconstructed Lobster Thermidor a rich and memorable treat with great flavours and texture. Service is friendly and prices par for the course. Come early as it gets very busy.

The levander yoghurt is the best in the town, strongly recommended. Service is friendly, a place worth to try. Special ox cheek eggs benedit and savory pancake are also strongly recommended too. Will be back soon.

Staying in Fitzroy

Neighbourhood Profile
Fitzroy
Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots, hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic. Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll find little independent shops where local clothes and furniture designers display their wares. There are specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its cuisine and art galleries, but if you want to buy an old-fashioned snooker table, there is a shop for that too. Small pubs still exist, tucked away on the corners of suburban side streets that serve up traditional Sunday roasts. Live music abounds, and the street performers play so hard you worry to tip them would ruin their concentration. Venture to the Spanish quarter on Johnston Street and you may even find street dancing. It is all happening amidst off-beat street murals and the shuffle of a very funky neighbourhood that embraces both old and new.
