Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Approaching Christmas and the staff were run off their feet. They remained polite and helpful. I had a choice of bar and Bistro for dining. I chose the former, although I think the food prices are the same for both. There is table service in...the Bistro, but in the bar you order and pay for your drinks at the bar. A waiter brought me a bottle of water without me having to ask for it. My cheese burger, dearer than at most places, came with hot chips and was very meaty in taste.More

Very excellent. Great menu, great dishes. Not pub grub but more fine dining in a pub setting. Staff are great, efficient friendly service. Bloody great.

Total rip off. Overpriced. Adequate food. Stingy serves. Crap burger. For a pub meal this is a totally ridiculous menu. Save your cash and go to a reasonably priced pub.More

Most impressed! The staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. Service was attentive and speedy without being over the top. Well done! The food? I loved everything. Our table chose the kitchen menu, which was starter, entrée, main & sides, with dessert. Every morsel was delicious...and generous. Two of our group had (minor) dietary needs, which were met expeditiously and easily. Well done to the kitchen and waiters. My recommendation. Make a booking and look forward to a great time!More

We were worn out from shopping along Smith Street and passed the Builders Arms on our way to catch a tram back into the city and decided to stop for a quick bite and some refreshments. Menu had a number of interesting choices of more...upmarket pub bistro style dishes. Inside was fairly crowded so we sat at one of the tables outside and ordered from the bar. We had the chicken, pork and pistachio terrine with a mustard greens salad and cornichons ($23) and a cheese burger with fries (also $23) plus a couple of glasses of wine. Terrine was tasty as was the cheeseburger though expensive for what it was. Service was good.More

This is a generally busy venue and staff are courteous and helpful. Steak last night was $42 .. full of gristle and largely inedible .. not good enough at that price point .. very disappointing when taking a friend to dinner. Cooking staff should have...known better especially given reputation and pedigree of organisation!More

I've been here both for a beer, and a meal. I have to say, I was unimpressed by the meal. But the staff, by far, is awesome. My waitress for the meal, and my bartenders for my drinks, were wonderful. So maybe skip the meal,...but come for a drink and the eclectic crowd.More

Visited while still Pinkies and had an OK meal. This new iteration very ordinary indeed. Whipped cod roe and grilled peppers both good but the arrow squid and the harissa lamb ribs both under described and sub par. The former chargrilled but with all the...tentacles burnt and acrid while the latter lacked any harissa punch. Both dishes flat and bland, poorly presented...stunningly ordinary. Tomato salad side dish while using quality heirlooms, was undermined by a poor Balsamic and overpriced at $18. Service barely existed....we were seated, menus dumped on the table and told to order at the bar. If we had wanted bar service that would have been where we would have booked. Interestingly, the adjacent table, when they arrived was asked whether they were ok with ordering at the bar....... Plates weren't properly cleared between courses..... basically you were on your own. Pretty decent wine list and beer options. Never fails to amaze the degree to which celebrity chefs are given a pass when either opening a new establishment or failing to properly manage an existing one. A waste of money.More

The food was good. However, the down part is the male staff rushing us to eat and drink. This is after all the restrictions out of place! It does seem like they just try to take all the customer as much as they can He...is pretty much come and push us like 2 times and I just ordered the drink! They should informed the customer before they order the food or drink that they have the limit time! Not impressed at allMore

Went on a Sunday evening and ate in the Bistro. Very friendly and attentive service which went perfect with the food fare. Had the quail (sort of deep fried), the Waugh roast of the day and the rump cap - all delicious (along with the...roasted cauliflower). A few beers, a good crowd and plenty of space. Would return.More

Really enjoyed our lunch with work colleagues and having cheeseburgers with French Champaign was a good way to finish up a fairly challenging year.

Hi Mark, It's pretty relaxed there, more like a Gastro Pub vibe, but Melbernians tend to dress very well, the best in Australia I'd say. Enjoy and try whatever is on the rotisserie, you will not be disappointed.
