It had been about six months since our last visit to Joes, which had always been a family favourite for breakfast. The berry pancakes were always a hit with our boys. The first sign of change was the fact that at 1100 on Fathers Day morning there was NOBODY seated in the restaurant. Warning sign number one. The greeting was... More

Excellent service, well cooked food, with a menu that caters for all tastes. Also, the best cakes and deserts in Brunswick Street.

Always frequented Joe's Garage with family and friends but the owners must have changed recently because the food to say the least was absolutely terrible. Ordered the Big Breakfast the bacon was very obviously flash fried as it was practically raw and when it was returned it came back deep fried and could not be eaten as it was totally... More

We had a late lunch and many other cafes/restaurants were not serving, but got quick tasty food here.

After waiting a good 25 minutes for a veal parmigiana, it finally came complete with uncooked cheese and fridge cold ham. This was the last of four meals to come, as the other three were delivered 10 minutes earlier. This is the second time we've eaten here, with similar results. Won't be making this musk are a third time.

I used to love Joe's Garage but they seemed to have changed management or chef's because it's gone majorly down hill. We ordered two smoothies that took an hour to get to us. I then order the paella. It was not paella. No rice, served in a cold ceramic bowl. It was just a bowl of peas, four prawns, chorizo... More

Joe's Garage has long been a favourite among my friends. Their cakes are enormous and delicious, they serve lovely coffee, there are plenty of big hearty meals and many good options for vegetarians/vegans. It's a great place to pop in for a quick drink and snack, or stay there for hours chatting and stuffing yourself. It's open quite late too... More

Honest but looks tired. Great honest place for breakfast & lunch .... this is before the cafe scene gone funkier and boutique in Melbourne ..... needs a revamp though.

Staying in Fitzroy

Neighbourhood Profile
Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots, hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic. Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll find little independent shops where local clothes and furniture designers display their wares. There are specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its cuisine and art galleries, but if you want to buy an old-fashioned snooker table, there is a shop for that too. Small pubs still exist, tucked away on the corners of suburban side streets that serve up traditional Sunday roasts. Live music abounds, and the street performers play so hard you worry to tip them would ruin their concentration. Venture to the Spanish quarter on Johnston Street and you may even find street dancing. It is all happening amidst off-beat street murals and the shuffle of a very funky neighbourhood that embraces both old and new.
