Quiet, zen and stylish little coffee shop with sweet people working in it. Has a very nice vibe indeed and extremely delicious coffee/ tea/ cakes. I noticed it is open from 8am into the evening 10pm ish and changes the light menu throughout the day. I am sure it would be just as charming in the evening though I visited... More

Admittedly we wouldn't have gone to this place without Tripadvisor in the first place - we were looking for a breakfast place near the "SCAI The Bathhouse" art gallery. The coffees were definitely the best we've had so far in Tokyo - and the breakfast was also lovely. I had fresh greens for the first time in 3 days; the... More

What a quaint little coffee shop! Coffee is wonderful, toasted bread and butter also is a must. We did not wait too long for a table and after a long walk at the UENO park- the coffee and cakes- a welcome respite. ❤❤

One of the oldest restaurants in the area. Fresh vegetables with pickles, miso soup, Japanese pinchos, an eating experience which is worth the effort.

After a day walking around Yanaka we stopped here at night before our train home. Sat upstairs in the traditional room and there were plenty of locals chatting away. Had a great time, nice atmosphere which was helped by the sudden summer downpour outside. Didn't actually sample the coffee, instead we tried some of the interesting beers on the menu.... More

Read about this place in Oliver Strand's Coffee column in the New York Times called "Ristretto." This place was fantastic. No English spoken, but their menus were decipherable. I had a nice breakfast and superb coffee. it was a really fascinating experience. it felt like something out of a Japanese noir picture, a la post-war Kurosawa

One of my favorite cafe shops in the area. It is very crowded usually, sometimes you have to wait on a bench next to the entrance door until some customers leave. The coffee is delicious and the staff very nice, the atmosphere very pleasant... You often see foreigners having lunch or just drinking coffee or something, having breakfast or lunch.... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
