We went there at 12:15pm and there was already a queue along the stairs. We only waited for 15 minutes which I think is reasonable. The staff was friendly. We ordered fried sardine and the sardine in egg casserole. Both are delicious! And with the price of just 900 yen for one star Michelin restaurant, I think it's the best... More

This is a restaurant specializes in sardines only.. We lined up half an hour before the restaurant opens and was first in line, within 15mins, the queue grew a fair bit, but not to worry as this is a fairly fast turnover eatery.. set lunch at 900 yen is a very good price especially in Tokyo.. I recommend the yanagawa... More

Went at 11.40am and the first group of diners had already taken the seats so had to wait for about 30 minutes before we were ushered into a small dining room with two other diners on the same table. Like us most people in the queue had read their review who wanted to experience Michelin star food at McDonald's prices!... More

Because of the Michelin star the rating is harsher. The lunch I had here was no better than some aji set lunches I had in Hakone or Tokyo. Still trying to figure out this Michelin guide ratings. There has been some hits and misses but I just scratch my head on this one. Maybe dinner is a different story. Sadly... More

Food is right, but not phenomenal. Very simple and well prepared meal. Staff not much friendly, hasty and abrupt. Should be more kind to the foreigners.

Japan is famous for speciality food. Nakajima is popular michellin 1 star japanese specilising in serving everything sardines. A popukar among locals and tourists, expect to wait in line at least 15 mins. Small restaurant with probably only 25 seating. 4 people cost around ¥3500. Very very reasonable.

I think that visiting one of Tokyo's ultra-cheap Michelin-starred restaurants is a must-do, I chose this one because it was near my hotel. I arrived at 11:15 and was one of the first people in line, but many people arrived soon after I did, and by the time I left the line was very long. There are a few set-menu... More

This place specializes in sardines - sashimi, baked, prepared several different ways. You can have lunch for about $10US. I arrived about an hour before they opened at 11:30a and was the first in line as workers brought in fresh fish. It's downstairs and the line forms all the way up the stairs.

A very good kappo restaurant that serves sardines at a bargain price at lunch. They don't take reservations at lunch time, so be prepared to queue. There is a counter with ca 10 seats and a few tables. When I was there, they took the orders already in the queue. I had the set lunch with fried sardines (with rice,... More

We knew we had to eat the famed sardine dishes at Nakajima while in Tokyo. We arrived about 11.15am & there was already a line (it opens at 11.30am). Thankfully we were able to be seated shortly after opening so it wasn't a long wait. Seated at the bar, we watched two chefs prepping for what must be a hectic... More
