It's not trendy and don't expect a big menu with lots of gourmet dishes. It's plain and simple and it serves fried pork in three different ways. The sidings are the same no matter the type of pork you choose. And yet, it's its simplicity, quality and efficiency that makes the difference. I was looking forward to eat something other... More

No idea why this place is popular, tonkatsu is good but somehow different from the usual tonkatsu, this comes from the crust around. Service is just ok, cabbage refill is possible, but rice is not. I would definitely recommend to visit another place nearby : taiho. Price is half and atmosphere more authentic.

First visited in 1978 and the service, atmosphere and quality of food is just as good. The restaurant has been refurbished since my last visit in 2005. So good that we had a takeaway portion to use for tonkatsu sando the next day. Highly recommended

We went there to eat tonkatsu, but came out full and wonderfully satisfied by the fried pork cutlet (tender and not oily at all), finely chopped cabbage, wonderful rice, pickled vegetables and a pork based miso soup. What was amazing however was how the workers organized. A wonderfully sweet gentleman took our order as we entered. He wrote notes on... More

If you are in the neighborhood and you are up to for some Tonkatsu you should come here. I loved watching these 4 older guys (grandpas) doing their magic.

Specialized Tonkatsu restaurant with excellent quality and taste. The menu is deep fried pork only, but at excellent quality and expertly prepared. Diners can watch the cooking action and see their food being prepared - this alone would be worth a visit, as the kitchen is always busy and the cooperation between staff is perfect. Customers should be prepared to... More

This is a small restaurant with only two items on the menu. You enter and sit down and wait until you are shown to your part of the table which surrounds where the food is cooked. It is fascinating to watch the preparation and is called to tongatsu - deep fried pork loin The place is recommended by Lonely Planet,... More

Go early to snag a spot downstairs to catch all the tonkatsu action. Just be prepared to smell like what you eat. There are three set menus, we didn't get the English version. We just pointed to the 1st and 2nd choices. Ask for seconds of the cabbage and soup, made of pork broth. Oh so good!

This eatery opens for dinner only and opens at 4pm. By 4:30 pm people are queuing up. The menu choices are limited, beer and sake are available. There are two floors. Sit at the 1F counter style area if you can to watch the cooking action, although I am not sure you can reserve for that. The 2F area includes... More

Staying in Shinagawa / Gotanda

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinagawa / Gotanda
In Shinagawa, an office district shares space with luxury residential buildings and the scene is constantly changing with rapid development. Ikedayama park and Togoshi park are great places to see beautiful traditional Japanese gardens with ponds, as well as enjoy the changing seasons. Shinagawa was a post and a port town during the Edo era and the lavish old Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples at Shinagawa and Ebara are very popular. It's a great place to get in touch with the old Edo atmosphere on a pleasure boat cruising along the canal. The neighboring area around Gotanda station is a study in modern contrasts filled with unique restaurants and a lively nightlife.
