Menu is a combination of pub food and classic French so it can be confusing and this is reflected in the mixed reviews. We had the French (mussels snails pork) and it was excellent. A 500ml carafe of good wine makes this in all good value. Cosy room with an open fire, good service.

A disappointing experience overall. Made a booking on line and requested a booth which was not able to be provided. Arrived an hour early for cocktails at the bar by the fire which couldn’t be accommodated. So we were shown to our table early to accomodate our early drinks which was fine. Except we were made to feel hurried to order food. Over. And over again. We eventually ordered entrees. Scallops were great. Duck confit was average, not a lot of flavour. Then it was time to order mains. I wanted steak but it was on truffle mash and I am allergic sadly to truffle so I asked to swap the mash for chips. Waitress didn’t believe that could be accommodated. But they could leave the mash off and I could buy a side of chips. Really?? So I settled on random grilled fish which was dry and tasteless served with store bought tartare and a coz lettuce leaf. The other steaks looked ok. My mums curry was huge but only a few pieces of prawn and the barramundi was so full of bones she couldn’t eat the dish at all. She told the waitress who shrugged her shoulders and offered a doggy bag. The creme brûlée was great. The chocolate mousse was tiny but tasty. Although the ambience is lively, it was a disappointing meal. Pity since we live just around the corner. Won’t hurry back.

My wife and I booked dinner here after a concert at Mt Barker. Expecting a quiet country pub, we were delighted by the busy, happy atmosphere and a level of friendly professional service sadly lacking in some big city establishments. Top marks go to Kieran, our host and sommelier, and Stella our charming waitress. We opted for the carte blanche family style option, providing a stunning array of well presented and well timed dishes. Good wine and coffee rounded out the night and we promised to return on our next visit to Adelaide (from Melbourne).

Had high hopes for this ‘scrubbed up’ hotel, having been to the Uraidla Hotel, and other than being reasonably attractive on the eye it couldn’t have been a more different and substandard experience. Sloooooooooow service and average food. One girl just seemed to walk around with her eyes closed, or otherwise it was this absurd behaviour of wait staff that is so common now where the attitude seems to be ‘I don’t look after your table, someone else does’ so they won’t even look at you! Our guy took forever to return to us each timing and getting a second glass of wine and the coffee orders took forever. The fish looked far more batter than fish and the cordon Bleu was a huge disappointment. Soggy and no cheese inside as it had obviously cooked/oozed out before it got to the plate. Boring steamed veg to accompany that looked almost like frozen veg! Apparently the burger was good - but 30$ with egg and bacon. Seriously. Would not try it again.

September 20 20 .Very Disappointed. We are locals and considered The Crafers Hotel to serve the beat meals in the Adelaide hills .It was always reliable and a cut above the other hotels due to its superb food and excellent service. Unfortunately the six of us all agreed that the meals were below average & considering the new pricing structure overpriced meals. The oysters ranged from small to tiny. The duck main course were small, tasteless & chewy with six tiny cubes of roast potato . The pork was extremely fatty and lacked flavour. The stakes were fatty with section in edible. Desserts sound great but weren’t. We really should have expressed our dissatisfaction when the waiter asked how were our meals rather than just smiling politely. Well we will now go to our other Hills hotels for our next dinning experience and wait to we hear from other locals if The Crafers has improved.

Average, Average, Average, bite to eat with my son on a Wednesday night, haven’t been for a while so thought it would make a change. Two course meal for $50, ok so we both had steak and desert, service was annoying, asked by three different waiting staff if the meal was ok within 5 mins, lucky a fourth didn’t appear! Steak was very average, medium rare but salted it up to add some flavour, desert was crepe brûlée and a pear danish with ice cream. For a fancy French themed menu there was nothing fancy about the meal. Not as bad to send it back but it was just so average a meal, we had onion rings and spuds for sides (French?). Sorry just average.

Staying locally for the weekend and wanted a pub meal. Arrived at 5.30pm to be told they were fully booked despite numerous inside tables being emptied. Yes they must have been reserved but my dining partner and I were only out for a quick bite. Got a table outside which stated non smoking but the passive blow over from the smokers area was horrendous. Requested a move. In checking the wine menu our first disappointment - the only sparkling red was a bleasdale.... hmmm My dining partner ordered a burger well done, myself some kilpatrick oysters and wedges along with a side of bread. Well readers - Such a disappointment. Burger was rare and oysters were only luke warm and really just tasted like tomato sauce with a bit of bacon. No sas, no flavor. The bread had good crunch but I had to use my oyster fork to butter it as there was not cutlery, no napkins and no condiments available. The burger got sent back to go well done but after 15 mins we cancelled and left. Graciously they advised we didn’t have to pay. One saving grace. So much for a good pub meal in the hills. Blah.

We have been to the Crafers Hotel before and had a good experience. The food was good and the service was also good. We decided to go this weekend Saturday the 17th of July for lunch for my birthday. What has happened to your service??? Right from the start our waitress has no idea about the menu or any of the wines. After ordering entrees we were told they are not doing the dish at the moment. And then the long wait... at least an hour after our entree was cleared before it looked like they were going to start cooking our mains. We asked multiple times how long it will be with little care or responsibility from staff. We had ordered a bottle of wine and had to remind them after all of our glasses were empty to get a re-fill. We got to the stage where we had been waiting for hours so we asked for the Manager. He listened to our concerns however he did not apologise or take any responsibility for our experience. When the meals finally came out they were underwhelming. No discount on the invoice and no responsibility taken. We are locals and will not be returning. I think they need a change in management if that’s how they treat their customers.

Visited the Crafers Hotel on a Sunday night for couple's dinner. Nice ambience and guests are well spaced out with distancing. The set menu was well priced with nicely presented food of good portions. The creme brûlée is something to be tried! We found out later that the chef was French and was previously working at hotels and the Jupiter in the CBD.

I am a local person with friends from Sydney in town to have a belated birthday celebration. I have been to the Crafers over the years and the food and service were always impressive, sadly our dining experience did not live up to our mood or previous expectations. We ordered two entrees and four main courses from the six dishes ordered two were just OK and the rest were absolute rubbish, don’t bother with the Pork Belly entree a small serve, we also had a serve of Croquettes which were the only highlight of the night. I ordered the Steak Frites as a Main Course it was inedible after two bites of the Sirloin Steak it was more like a flank piece of meat thrown onto a plate with coldish shoestring chips and a Cafe De Paris butter which tasted more like smelly shoes, hardly any dressing on the bland cabbage salad, two Fish of the Day (Swordfish) were also ordered and this was eagerly pushed by the Waiters on our arrival, both were so overcooked they needed resuscitation and the Tempura Oysters were so small they were unrecognisable on the plate, this special did not live up to the rather long pitch that was executed by the rather annoying male waiter who appeared to be more into his watches than the job at hand. This restaurant is nothing but an overpriced bistro trying to masquerade as an upmarket French eatery in a pub style atmosphere. Such a shame as we recommended this restaurant over the years but Standards have dropped indeed.

Very disappointing experience when we visited in a group of 8 for lunch as heard such good reports about this hotel. I ordered a vegetarian burger but was told they had a problem with that but could do a zucchini burger. To summarise quickly it was a few bits of grilled zucchini on a very uninspiring roll and a bit of lettuce. As a whole the meals were underwhelming and overpriced.

We have had the excellent beef bourguignon as prepared by the previous cook several times at Crafers. So this time our party of 4 had the new offering (part of 2 courses for $50). What a disappointment! BB is a simple stew - cubed beef, small whole onions etc in a rich sauce. What we were offered was a single slab of beef cheek nestled up to a bit of mashed potato and (on the side, believe it or not!) a scoop of tasteless, textureless vegetables reminiscent of frozen mixed veg. The sauce was thin and watery. The total bill was $280. We won't be returning any time soon.

From the moment we walked in we enjoyed the experience! We hadn’t booked and they were very busy but they found us a table and all of the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was great. We started with a cocktail and then had the sour dough bread followed by the Wagyu steak which was OMG delicious and cooked exactly as asked! This was paired with a glass of red selected with the help of the somelier. Great experience all round and very reasonably priced!

It was a Monday night so we didn’t think we would need a reservation, so was very surprised when we arrived and it was fully booked. Nonetheless the waitress Kate advised she could arrange a table for us but with a stipulation that we could only have it for an hour. We agreed. From the moment we were seated all the staff were very friendly. We ordered oysters for entree, kilpatrick and shallot and sherry vinaigrette. For main hubby had house special, ribeye with vegetables and I had prawn and barramundi curry. Both were outstanding in size and flavour and the service was excellent. Communication from Kate regarding our table was exceptional, she ended up finding room for us so we didn’t need to hurry, which we really appreciated. For us an excellent night out is not only the food but customer service and the Crafers Hotel has both.

We were staying at Mt Lofty House and decided to eat at this hotel after reading positive reviews. The food was really great, the staff friendly and efficient. I had the lamb rack and was one of the nicest lamb racks I have had in years! My husband had the steak and he loved it, perfectly cooked to his liking. The only let down was the dessert, we ordered the Peach Melba and the peaches appeared to be tinned, we expected them to be fresh peaches straight from one of the many fruit producers in the area. There were supposed to be "bruleed" with a torch but we could see no evidence of this at all and the Panna Cotta was pretty solid, no wobble on that one which was a shame because the main meal was fantastic. I would gladly go again but just not order a dessert, they do mains very well.
