Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the best meals one can get in Adelaide. A short drive from the city to get good old friendly small town service. Food was excellent, wait staff were friendly. Go early if you do not have reservations as it fills up fast. For...starters, we got the slow braised pork belly, venison tartare, confit duck rillettes. The pork belly and venison tartare was fantastic where the rind of the pork belly still retained the crispiness. However, I felt the confit duck was a little dry. For the mains, we got the duck breast and fried calamari. Both were cooked to perfection with the duck breast exactly pink and calamari not overcooked. What I liked was that the chef had not put too much salt seasoning on the calamari to fry it. Desert consisted of Creme Brulee and Dark Choc Mousse. Would have been nice if the there was a little more Creme Brulee served in a deeper ramekin. Overall, was a very good experience.More

Seth, was excellent, he was very knowledgable with wines. A great spot to visit, excellent food, atmosphere and vibe. Renovations are very well done, credit to the architect.

We returned again with friends, all of us visiting the Hills for a few days. The ambience and decor is so not like a pub. It is very attractive and the staff are super. Full table service. The food was great as it has been...before. Good options. Some very casual like fish and chips, others more fancy like pulled duck rillettes - totally delicious. Well priced wine and very good coffee. Happy travellers.More

The Crafers never disappoints!!. We had arranged to dine with friends on Saturday. Can't beat the cosy ambience. The food was superb.. . the restaurant is a destination in itself. Service was attentive with a special mention for David who we remembered from a previous...visit for his professionalism and knowledge of wine. After dinner and a last minute drink by the open fire, we retired to our room which was a highlight. Spotlessly clean, well appointed, quality toiletries provided plus bathrobes and slippers. We had a quiet night sleep thanks to the solid walls through which no sound could be heard!! In the morning we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast in the guest kitchen just across the hall. Needless to say, we are planning a return trip to the Crafers.More

Was looking forward to it all week. Very disappointed. Got the mushroom burger, probably my first mistake, and it was awful. Oily and tasted a cross between bland and something else. The chips were burnt. And the wine was tart. As the plates were cleared...the burnt chips, etc were acknowledged, apologised for and to be mentioned to the chef but that is all. Not sure I’ll make the effort again. A poor spend of $80+More

Overall we had a good night but there were a couple of things that were quite disappointing. In particular, we felt quite rushed to order food, and were pounced on within 5 minutes of seating. We pushed back and ordered when we were ready, and...after we had a chance to settle in with our friends and read the menu properly. There were a couple of large groups seated so can understand why staff may have been keen to get some orders moving, but managing food through the kitchen is there problem and shouldn't be ours. All night, the staff seemed very rushed and stressy which created an unpleasant vibe. The food in general was good, but the poached ling fish that I ordered had some sharp broken pipis shells in the bouillabaisse sauce. Not happy about that. The drink service was very slow. The bottled wine that we ordered was placed in a wine bucked a left in the corner of the restaurant rather than on the table. This meant that we had to wait for the wait staff to come an fill our glasses. Made absolutely no sense. Why not just leave the bottle with the diners? At the end of the evening, around 10:30'ish were were told that we had better 'hurry-up' as the hotel was going to close at 11pm. This was despite only having just received on order of drinks that we had waited 20 minutes for.More

Visiting for a week in Mount Lofty, we had been looking forward to our special meal at Crafers Hotel after hearing great things about this gastro pub experience. Unfortunately while the food was great the service left a lot to be desired. We had a...5:30pm booking and arrived on time. We were greeted by a surly waitress who advised us before we’d even sat down that it was “strictly a two our turn-around on tables and we are required to leave by 7:30pm”. She clearly wasn’t impressed that we had our two children (aged 9 and 7) with us for dinner. We noted that two tables of adults who were seated 5 minutes after us, in booths rather than the centre of the room) weren’t given the stop-watch warning upon arrival. $228 later, the introduction spoilt much of the night and made us feel very unwelcome in what was otherwise a lovely elegant old pub. Suggest you give the Crafers Hotel a miss if travelling in the Adelaide Hills with families.More

Our second visit. We’re a group of four retired academics and artists with eclectic tastes. We meet at restaurants each Thursday. Lunch here was outstanding -the private room, the excellent food from a creative menu, the perfect wines and beers of all kinds to suit...any meal…. We have travelled widely and all find it hard to recall a better luncheon experience in Europe, Asia, the Pacific or the USA Leonard CohenMore

Hon Duncan, just smart casual is nice for our dining rooms. We have a front bar where we don't mind tanks and thongs, but our dining room is a little more sophisticated. Thanks and hope to see you! Cheers Julie peter
