We were also fooled by some very old reviews saying how good it was. basically, if you don't seem like a big spender, you are ushered, in a strangely patronizing way, to a place away from the window. then, you are sold into whatever the owner considers to be the fish of the day, which in our case was an... As our meal was being cleared by the owner, he asked my wife about her meal. My wife decided to politely respond that her meal was good. To that, the owner responded "I believe it" and that really sums up the problem with this restaurant: the size of the owner's ego. We went to La Taverne Du Pecheur because we... More

One of the beauties of Easter Island is its lack of touristic appearance. Sans the several sarong shops in Hanga Roa, you actually have to peer behind leaves to find accomodations with locals who make semi motels of their properties. This is one of the true beauties of Easter Island, so I put forth the question, why travel so far... More

We had dinner here on a recent trip to Easter Island. Is highly recommended by the guidebooks, but we don't know why. The fish was OK, not exceptional, but the side dishes were dry and overcooked. Portions were way too large. And the worst creme brulee we have ever had (and we've tried a lot). Yes, the owner is grumpy,... More

Just before Christmas, we were able to spend a family holiday in Easter Island and this is what we experienced our first evening there: After reading the reviews, I was looking forward to a meal in this goodlooking little restaurant by the harbour... It started out a bit strange. When the six of us arrived, the owner was talking very... More

The food is good, but expensive. The tables are crowded. The owner/waiter is grouchy. He forces everyone to order an entree - you cannot just have appetizers or drinks or desserts. All entrees come with the same selection of vegetables, which are good and varied. Portions are large so you don't need an appetizer. Unless you have a table near... More

I had two meals at La Taverne du Pecheur in the first week of October 2008. The first was lunch and was excllent! The second was dinner with paella ... the plate itself was huge and very heavy (maybe 12 lbs) and loaded with the best of sea food I´ve eaten! The restaurant is immediately adjacent to the island ¨wharf¨and... More

We ate at La Taverne du Pecheur about 3 weeks ago. We had an appetizer and two main courses and everything was delicious. Service was adequate. We thought the price was a little high. But there is another French restaurant about a 10 minute walk away from La Taverne which we thought was even better and was less expensive: Au... More
