Our tasting menu doesn’t change every season but when the time is right. It is an ‘organic menu’ that adjusts to the changes constantly happening around us and highlights the best of our region, seasonal French inspired dishes, which blend classic techniques and the finest local produce with exquisite results. The property’s garden and wild bee hives add to our sustainability commitment and emphasis on fresh and local.

My husband and I visited The Long Apron at Clovelly recently when we booked a table to celebrate an occasion. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to dine at many restaurants In Australia and overseas, and food and wine experiences our absolute favourite past time. The food left an impression that took us back to our time in France, but while it was uniquely crafted to pay homage to a French inspired menu, it also embraced the incredible local food offerings and the inspired and unique cuisine collaborations that the Spicers Retreats group are renowned for. The space was welcoming, warm and luxurious but certainly not stuffy or obnoxious, the staff professional, committed and wonderfully friendly, and we took personal delight to see a restaurant at capacity rejoicing in their craft and producing a product that was worth taking the time to review. Usually at this time of the year we may have been in Europe and most certainly in France hunting out that beautifully ‘quaint’ French Bistro - well it’s clear to us that often the local treasures are far better than ones you may have to travel to the other side of the world for - The Long Apron we look forward to seeing you again very soon.

I’m normally not a fan of degustation menus because it just seems a bit gluttonous. Not at the Long Apron which seems to have perfected the art of portion size and spacing between courses, so you feel satisfied but not over full. The wines are perfectly matched to each course, and perfectly portioned too. Perhaps I struck it lucky but it felt like the chef had researched my favourite foods and served each one in the most spectacular way. Watermelon tartare was a delightfully refreshing start, smoked octopus to die for, as was the duck with a pear terrine. Simply gorgeous and topped off by flawless service. V much worth the trip.

Lovely food, although slightly on the small side...we were in the private dining room which was absolutely divine for a special birthday celebration... I personally didn't have the matching wines, but my friends did and they appeared a little on the small side. The restaurant is very expensive, so prepare for a large bill Spicers is a magical place to visit

Me and my parnter had been so excited all week for our first anniversary dinner together. We decided on the 5 course degustation menu. Started off with the watermelon tartare. Its was soo sweet it felt like eating a plate of jam, texture was nice but eating anymore would make you feel ill. Next was chicken tarrine. Just plain bland with nothing special. 3rd in line was baby grilled octopus. Tentacles were extremely salty while the beans had no seasoning whatsoever. 4th was lamb with saffito. Half a mouthfull of lamb with ju that was way to tangy, no balance or harmony. Is anyone actually tasting what they are making. Choclate marquis to finish. Was probably the most nicest dish out of all of them. Throughout the night waiters cant even remember seat positions, constantly bringing out food asking who ordered what and to make it worse the chef brought out to dishes to the wrong table, came back 2 minutes later ,took them back to the kitchen and came straight back out to the other table, not something i want to see especially during these covid times. The only thing that makes it 2 chef hats is the price and location

Thank you for your feedback, As a hospitality individual yourself i'm sure you understand the level of legislation that we have been working with in order to open the doors once again due to Covid 19. On this evening in particular the restrictions in place and level of business unfortunately had an impact on your dining experience. Thankfully with restrictions being lifted and our team, old and new, have become more familiar with how to operate and I hope that we can welcome you back once again to enjoy the fantastic experience we provide at the long apron. Regards, Mark

The restaurant is very nice, staff are nice but I am a bit disappointed. I ordered the duck leg tonight after the waiter recommended it. I am pregnant at the moment so I was quite cautious with the food I am eating . I have asked the waiter to make sure there is no alcohol in the food . The waiter confirmed this but as I tasted the food I can tasted the alcohol in the cherry especially. I checked with the waiter again , the waiter said no , it does not have alcohol and then he said cause the alcohol has been cooked through and evaporated while cooking. But I actually don’t want any alcohol in the food at all so I felt a bit upset and worried. The place is quite nice but I don’t think I will go back again soon.😢

We were excited to have the opportunity to go to the Long Apron and didn't think twice about ordering the degustation. At $120 each we were expecting it to be exceptional. The first dish, scallop ceviche, was overly tart, puckering really and one scallop doesn't go very far. The second dish, featuring wild mushrooms, snap peas, asparagus and parmesan was an explosion of deliciousness. The suckling pig was also gorgeous. The venison was chewy and an extremely small portion. We were able to make a change to the dessert and we were glad we did because the white chocolate tart was so enjoyable. We thought the tart pastry was perfect. Service was attentive, the restaurant is lovely but we didn't quite feel like we received value for the dollars spent. The portions were very small and 2 out of the 5 dishes were not as good as they should have been, hence the rating. We did have a nice night but we were actually hungry when returned home.

Very disappointed with this restaurant. We had high expectations for The Long Apron after reading reviews and knowing the quality of the Spicers hotel group. However, we were sadly left feeling hungry and disappointed after having their degustation menu on Sunday evening. The food was very basic and in very small portions - having experienced many degustation menus over the years and understanding that portion size for a 6 course menu is always smaller than usual, however this was half the size again. There was a lack of presentation with the small portion of food placed in the centre of a boring plate, and both plate and food were without any personality or colour. One of the courses was inedible, something that we shared with our waitress Tina, showing her the uneaten duck breast, unable to cut it with a knife due to it being fatty and undercooked. There was no apology or explanation, and when paying $120 per person for a meal, we expect so much more. We were left feeling unimportant and ripped off, with no desire to ever return to Spicers. Foodies beware!

We had lunch at the Long Apron 26/9/21 The four of us left unimpressed. Our wait staff was nice enough but appeared a tad inexperienced. The location was lovely and our table location and setting also excellent but the food only average or a bit above. While we don’t expect large servings at a quality restaurant, the portions of eggplant sides to the lamb were just mean and lacked flavour. Some of kipfler potatoes were not cooked sufficiently. The lamb was far too fatty and we each felt we should have sent it back. The NZ Pinot was a plodder at the price. The dessert and coffee was good. E’cco in New Farm and the Spirit House which we have been to recently have much better food and more crisp and professional table service. Maybe we got the restaurant on a bad day, but at the premium price point they can’t afford such mediocrity. I sent them direct feedback several days ago - they ignored it.

We have been here before and it was lovely, however this visit was extremely disappointing. We both decided to go for the Wagu main at an extra $20 cost. Ordered medium rare and it arrived so raw that it was cold. We sent it back and the next one arrived overdone, dry and tough. The dessert of crème caramel was just dumped on a plate with no attempt to make it look pretty or appetising. Not the standard expected for the price paid. Won’t be back.

Food was very good but felt like I wouldn’t be back in a hurry they were very busy. Toilets were not very clean the food portions were very small we had the 5 corses but we wished we had the 3 courses then we could have got some vegetables. Our dinner ended up costing us around $350 for two people and I only had 2 drinks we both come away feeling a little ripped off.

My partner and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary at the long apron with a beautiful dinner and drinks. Our waiter Tina was incredibly welcoming and professional throughout the whole evening. Her knowledge of the local produce and menu advice made us at thrilled with excitement to try every plate. We will definitely be returning. Thank you ❤ Regards Mckensie

The food at this restaurant was good. Small servings but tasty. However, the service was extremely rushed and it felt like the staff couldn’t wait to get us out of there! We were booked in for 6.30pm. By 7.20pm, we had been served 3 courses plus wine, and been given the bill. Also, I didn’t appreciate the dogs in the restaurant.

I have not only eaten here when i stayed but a number of other times to enjoy a modern french influenced ever changing menu.Plating and service are outstanding. The combinations of ingredients are innovative yet work without exception. Indeed the whole venue has that Relais et Chateaux air of distinction. Relaxed but firmly luxurious.

We just celebrated our 30 th Wedding Anniversary with dinner at The Long Apron. We enjoyed excellent service from our server, she had just the right amount of warm friendliness that wasn’t intrusive with a good knowledge of the offerings. Food was all excellent, great flavours and well cooked. Dessert portions were almost too generous, unusual for a French restaurant. Overall, a great place for a special occasion.

Upon booking the dinner, bed and breakfast package I was sent an email confirmation with an extra note saying they had the birthday on record from when we visited some years ago, and looked forward to our visit. The food here is excellent, first class, exciting, and tasteful, as is the service. We selected the souffle, lamb rump/market fish (barramundi) and the almond dacquoise/creme brulee for our 3 options. Each course was absolutely delightful, both in presentation and flavor combinations. The breakfast next morning was equally delightful - the coffee, fruit and granola to begin with followed by the omelette and more coffee made for a lazy relaxing morning on the Terrace. All the staff knew that it was a birthday we were celebrating, and the little extra surprises that kept popping up put the icing on the cake. This is a top class place to visit - well worth the drive and great value for money for any special occasion.
