Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Recently went to Poets Cafe for a morning tea with a group of ladies. The atmosphere was ok and the service was fine but the prices were absolutely extreme. I have NEVER in my entire life paid $8.90 for a flat white in a mug....A total rip off!!! Will never enter that cafe again and will highly discourage any of my friends from going.More

We visited this cafe on a recent trip to visit family on the Sunshine Coast. Our group of seven adults and a three year old had originally planned on lunching at this cafe but found it had limited options for two gluten intolerant adults. Like...so many other reviewers with children, we were sent to an outdoor table without being asked our preference. Looking for a light lunch option, we were astounded to see baguettes on menu costing $30! Apparently they came with chips but this seems super expensive! My sister ordered a Coke which was flat: I noticed it had been poured from an opened large bottle which I found unusual. My partner and I shared scones which were fine but not remarkable. For four soft drinks, a tea, coffee and scones, we paid just over $70 which seemed rather expensive. Beautiful location but I definitely would not recommend this cafe, unfortunately.More

Worst customer service I’ve ever seen. Arrived with our 2 year old child which apparently meant we had to sit outside near the main road. The very rude owner, whom I think must be single because he has zero empathy or respect, snatched a decorated...table number out of our child’s hand and made her cry before we could even sit down. Don’t think he even knows how to smile looking at the other reviews. ShockingMore

Do not try to take your children here! They are very clearly not welcome. We walked in and it was empty, immediately an old man (could be owner or manager) told us we had to sit outside near the road. My 2 year old daughter...sat on a chair and picked up the reserved sign and a little ladybug table decoration, smiling and happy. The man then GRABBED them out of her hand and said ‘NO’ and made her cry. We immediately got up and left. If I could put 0 stars I would. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN, awful place.More

Poets Cafe is definitely a must stop while in Montville. The staff there are absolutely fantastic, I visit almost daily as I work nearby and have never had a bad experience. The food is delicious and always cooked to perfection. Poets has been my go...to café over any other in Montville. I am shocked to see any reviews speaking negatively about the staff or owner. The entire team is professional, well mannered and always endeavoured to ensure that my experience has been excellent. Highly recommend.More

The building is AMAZING, and the position and views FANTASTC. UNFORTUNATELY FOR US, we got GABBI as our waitress. I very seldom leave reviews unless I can say something positive, but this waitress really lets the whole business down! It may be that she hasn’t...had the correct training or experience, but failing that, she just shouldn’t be working in the service industry. Bearing in mind that the restaurant was NOT busy when we went, her attitude was appalling. She was haughty, grabbed the menu of my grandson with quote”someone else might want to see that”. They didn’t have a high chair, but knowing my grandson to be well behaved, that wasn’t a problem. ( there were no signs saying children weren’t welcome). I did kindly request that we move tables when an outside one became available, at which point she practically barked that “ it was company policy not to move tables after an order had been taken” - no apology, no smile, just an arrogant smirk. Had I been on my own, I would have left immediately, but as I was with company, I felt that would be rude. The whole experience was RUINED by this one BAD EGG. I hope the owners have a chance to allow GABBI some training, and if not, allow her only kitchen or background duties where she can cause less damage to what would have been a wonderful experience.More

Rude staff, unclean bathroom, unable to push two tables together to eat with our family, expensive, minimal gluten free options, can’t bring a pram in with sleeping baby.

Such a beautiful venue, amazing views, but, $17 for 2 coffees was way extreme! The fact the waitress had to ask twice for what we wanted, a late & a flat white, & then it was terrible coffee! Wish we didn’t pay!! Certainly won’t ever...return & wouldn’t recommend to anyone!!More

Don't try to take yourDog here. The Girl had a look like we were seeking to mess the place up,effect and upset others and she looked disapproving when we asked could we sit. My wife was told to sit next to the toilet entry in...front of the main door the furthest point from the big selling point the View. The rudeness and almost neglect continued..so we left...never to ever return. Snobbery and animal unfriendly.....More

Whilst the chips and scones were excellent the potato fritters tasted like regurgitated baby food. We were appalled we were charged $30 for a kid's milkshake and a kid's smoothie! When I asked if we could move to another table that wasn't drenched in sunlight,...the waitress declined advising the owners would not approve because we had 3 kids with us. It felt as if we had been excluded from sitting next to the couples because of our kidsMore

The Poets Cafe is a marvellous place to have lunch. Right in the heart of Montville with some of the best views out to the ocean. We had the share plate which was excellent. Only one issue which saw some customers come in the walk...out after seeing the menu was the prices. It’s a shame because the fare and surroundings are worth it. Like Angelina in Paris you don’t go in unless you can afford this kind of pampering. Staff were lovely and attentive. We will be back.More

PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND AVOID THIS PLACE.. We were looking forward to a special family meal during our holidays on Sunshine Coast and Poet’s Cafe with its romantic name, charming decor and picturesque views seemed like a perfect choice. Unfortunately you should never...judge the book by its cover. We asked for a table with a view, but as we had children, we were told by the owner to sit at a table next to the busy street. Even though our children are older and well behaved. He pointed his finger and said if we don’t like it, we can leave and find another place up the road. We stayed nevertheless as our children were tired and hungry. But this experience was enough for us to never come back to this place again. I feel sorry for the owner as he seems to be a very miserable and sad man who does not like people and uses his position of power to make other people’s life as awful as his own. This is evident both for the staff who seem to be scared of him and the customers who will never come back to his cafe after even one encounter with this man. What a sad and terrible life to live..More
