Called in here for lunch on Sunday - no booking with great anticipation. The last time we were here pre-covid we had such an amazing experience; today was a huge let down - sadly much of the irritant factor could have been taken away if...the staff were invested. After being seated on the balcony and looking forward to the tranquility, there was a large party with noisy screaming children adjacent to us (that was an ongoing source of irritation and distraction however the restaurant has no control over this) - the waitress arrived with menus and asked us if we would like a drink before launching into a spiel of what was not available, no beer on tap, no something or other the waitress was very difficult to understand and I had to ask her to repeat herself. With beer a non option, we decided on a cocktail. I ordered an Aperol spritz only to be told, 'we have no aperol'. I suggested that the waitress tell us what they DO have available to order, and we settled for some tap water. I am thinking we are not off to a good start, no beer on tap, no (still couldn't understand what it was there was none of) and no aperol. Uninspired by the service thus far we ordered our meal; my husband had the sirloin with chimichurri and I had the spaghetti with squid and we shared a bruschetta as a starter. The bruschetta was dripping in oil and devoid of much flavour at all. Our mains arrived, underwhelming. The chimichurri flavour was more like mint sauce and lacked any depth of flavour, the steak was palatable. The spaghetti itself was well seasoned albeit very oily and the squid very rubbery. So very disappointed after our last visit which was outstanding - but wait there is more. After finishing our mains, the waitress brought a dessert menu and asked us if we would like anything else. My husband ordered an affogotto to which he was told "oh sorry I forgot we turned the coffee machine off 10 minutes ago" - so infuriating and so expensive for what it was. We left disappointed and wandered into the tasting room which was full of a noisy busload of people - rather too many for current distancing restrictions so decided to call it a day and return to Sydney. The entire experience so underwhelming, won't be returning - From the get go we were put off by being told how many things were not available without any positive spin or attempt to upsell what they did have. For goodness sake, please stop asking customers if they would like dessert or coffee if you have turned the coffee machine off before the end of service and have no intention of turning it back on.More
