Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

No gluten free scones ad advised by the rude staff when we asked. Despite advertising they sell and driving more than two hours with guests. Apalling service, bad atmosphere. If manager is the owner then you need a long hard look at your staff and...yourself for proper customer service. Do not waste yoir time anyone gone in thereMore

The Sassafras Cafe holds the heart of this charming village. The owner Rod is a gem💎 Izzy serves with a smile 😊 my pumpkin soup came in a huge bowl and was hearty. The chicken schnitzel burger was yummy. My cousins quiche delicious. The berry...cheesecake divine. My chai latte came with a flower imprinted in the froth which is what I’m all about. Never had a flower in my cup before💜I then purchased 3 more sweet cakes to take home to my cousins property. A memorable experience!More

I went in to get a coffee and a focaccia and in my 30-40 minutes there I was shocked at the comments being made! An older man who I can only assume is the owner or boss was making remarks about customers in a disgusting...manner (commenting on looks and appearance). Lots of swearing and the other staff seemed uncomfortable the whole time. He also made many sexual references which should never be made in the workplace. I truely hope that this is not a regular thing as I am absolutely appalled. Coffee was good but the food was average. Will not be returning.More

Honestly felt sorry for the staff. He was grumbling and shaking his head at his staff for not helping us even though they were with other customers. We even over heard him saying some wildly inappropriate “jokes” to other customers ( “ don’t trust the...French” “ bloody Sri Lankans everywhere” ). He told us that we should go else where for vegan food. His staff however were lovely, trying to make accommodations and adjustments for us. Nearly everything we requested they had run out of which was a bit disappointing. We ending up at the Olinda Cafe which was so much nicer.More

Great cafe in the vibrant town of Sassafras. We were promptly greeted by a lovely young lady who very efficiently told us all about the specials and cakes on offer. There’s a good selection of food and drinks. We had the pumpkin and spinach focaccia...which was delicious although the pumpkin would have been better if it were roasted. Will definitely return, the scones looked amazing!More

We ordered the Sassy Burger and Smoked Salmon Open and they were good. Service and Coffee was ok. But it goes downhill quickly. Don't expect any ambience. Worst of all, it's winter and there's NO HEATING in this restaurant. It was COLD as. Perhaps I...was expecting too much.More

So close to Miss Marpel cafe. Size of dishes are good but a bit expensive. Good staff and lovely environment.

Ate at lunchtime on a busy public holiday. With two adults and two young kids, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful or friendlier. A gentleman who worked there (possible-owner?) joked and engaged with our young kids despite very busy café. Food was delicious –...I had the quiche and my wife had the BLT. Fresh food, made well, delivered quickly. Importantly, their kids menu is sensible portions. So many places deliver a mountain of chips and nuggets and call it a kids meal, most of which gets wasted. The servings here were appropriately sized for the 3-10 range. Also, the team there are very forgiving because in our rush to get the kids to the toilets before leaving we completely forgot to pay! We returned later in the day and settled the bill, and they were fine about it all. Thanks to the team.More

We took a table outside and were told to wait for somebody to take our order.....quite a wait. The wait continued for our food....with the coffee arriving 20 minutes before the food finally turned up. A person next to us got his food as well...as one of our dishes before us, even though he rocked up 30minutes later. Anyway our dish finally arrived after having a scenic tour through the place, back to the kitchen and was joint by our soup of the day (cauliflower). Payment was done inside which happened much faster and with a smile. No wow factor for me, but I am kind of picky.More

Small and cozy, the Sassafras Cafe is an unnoticeable building, tucked in amongst the more touristy stores. We had the quiche and scones which were quite nice. The selection of tea is wonderful as well, highly recommend the Tumeric or the Coconut.
