About
Once an 18th century coaching inn, The White Hart in Ampthill is situated in the north of the Georgian market town. This historic Grade II listed building, which may date back as far as the 16th Century, continues to be a prominent destination in Ampthill. Features include a wall mural above the bar’s fireplace of the Prince of Wales feathers, created by local artists in 1646, whilst our stylish 1930s dining room was built towards the end of the arts and crafts era. Our Mediterranean-inspired menu is served daily from 8am, and guests can choose from a variety of dishes all freshly prepared in our open kitchen. The provenance and quality of our ingredients is paramount, and our produce is ethically

The restaurant (and its bouncers) appear to hold young paper in particular contempt. Whilst happy to employ young people - when others visit they are looked down upon and treated poorly. Son and friends visited on a Saturday evening for a meal together. Bouncer was...unfriendly and unpleasant upon arrival - stating that they had better behave themselves (all 18 year olds). Restaurant staff were equally unfriendly and condescending. Spoilt these young peoples' experience when spending their hard earned money from working at other similar establishments. Food average; experience poor.More

Went for a Sunday roast and I've had better microwave meals. The roast is £17 and awful!! Gravy had a film over it, beef was dry and tough. Waited 40 mins to take our order. It's a shame as the staff are friendly and the...atmosphere is goodMore

We were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff. Amazing choice on the menu and the food was excellently prepared. Both the main course and dessert were delicious. Also great that The White Hart is also dog-friendly - a definite plus! Highly recommended!

I have visited the white Hart many times over the few years it has been open. I find the experience most enjoyable when visiting with friends for either drinks in an evening or a catch up over food. Their service has always been great, but...especially during the additional stresses of social distancing. They have done all they can to keep the service we have always enjoyed, and the food has never disappointed. The drinks can be a bit pricey but worth itMore

We had brunch in the White Hart today and couldn’t fault it. Booking online was super quick & easy. The welcome was very friendly and the service was excellent. The brunch menu is extensive - something for everyone. We both had full English with a...couple of tweaks which were no problem. The food was hot and delicious. We will definitely return.More

My partner and myself visited for our anniversary and were really disappointed in the whole experience. I wasn't expecting the world from a Sunday roast at the pub but I certainly wasn't expecting slow service, cold food and an incorrect bill. We had to wait...a long time for drinks and then even longer until someone came to look our food order and they only did because we called them over after sitting patiently for half an hour. Our food finally arrived after an hour and by this point we were starving. Our food was not hot but because we were so hungry we just ate straight away rather than complaining and risking waiting another half hour for food. The roast beef was fine. Nothing special and over priced for the size but it was fine. My partner had the special slow cooked beef. This was not good. The portion was small and the meat was tough. Definitely wasn't slow cooked for 12 hours!!! We then asked for the bill as soon as our food was finally cleared as we were very much looking forward to leaving. The bill arrived and only on closer inspection did I realise we were overcharged for the beef special. I wonder how many other people were overcharged for this and did not notice (as I'm sure the computer is set up to a certain amount)! The waitress took the extra £3 off the menu but not once did she apologise that we almost overpaid what was already an overly expensive meal. So disappointed and will definitely not be returning.More

Service was from the arrival very unfriendly. It almost felt that the staff didn't want any customers onsite. We had to wait quite a while to get our drink, starter and main order in. The food was great, that's why two stars. After the main...course, we were asked how long we think we would still be occupying the table. We were also told that a normal time for each customer to dine in is 1 hour and 25 minutes and we have now exceeded this time. After we asked a bit more clarification, we were allowed to order a dessert. There were a lot of delays in the service but we were expected to free the table within 1 hour 25 minutes. Very weird experience. New COVID-19 service?More

Delicious food and atmosphere! Visited with a friend on Monday and the service and food were both great. Good value especially with eat out to help out offers still on. Lots of Covid measures in place so felt very safe.
