I was looking forward to this High Tea and was very happy with the venue. It’s a beautiful old house in a very beautiful tree-lined street with lovely garden. The Covid safe protocols were all in play so that felt good and all my interactions...with the staff were excellent - from booking to the actual experience on the day. Unfortunately the food was a big let down. I think the microwaves get a good work out as the warm/hot food was limp and ‘steamed’. The scones were very average and rubbery - such a disappointment as scones really aren’t that hard to warm up in the oven or cook fresh when you have sittings and know exactly how many people are dining. The sweet treats looked good but were all pre-bought cases with less than satisfactory fillings. Everything felt mass produced, ‘plastic’ and very commercial - not one tiny bit special. My friend ordered tea which she enjoyed, my coffee was honestly undrinkable. This place has so much potential but it lets itself down.More

My daughter and I love to do afternoon teas. We have had afternoon teas all over the world and we are vegan so it can be a big ask. Today my daughter couldn’t come so I took my husband to the gables. I was so...impressed!! Everyone was so kind and so attentive. The food was great and we really felt like valued guests. Nothing was too much trouble and we had a lovely afternoon. I highly recommend The Gables, such a lovely spot, easy to park, beautiful house and really the staff were just so nice. Thank you very much. I’ll definitely be back!More

A classic mansion in the Queen Anne/Victorian style is a great location for a work dinner or wedding.

After researching various High Tea venues for my daughters birthday, we chose to stay local and selected The Gables. We were thrilled with the delicious food, gorgeous surroundings, but most of all with the service provided by Michelle who went above to look after my...daughter, her friends and myself. There was more than enough food offerings and a good ratio of sweet and savoury. The Gables were so accomodating with food intolerances too. Thank you for making my daughters 16th birthday so special.More

Attention provided by wait staff at every stage was considerate helpful and not intrusive Setting of the peacock room provided delightful ambience and pumpkin salad and glass of rose perfect! We also observed a number of other meals arrive at other tables all looking fresh...and inviting and definitely want to return for the high tea A little haven in the suburbsMore

Friends took myself and another mutual friend to The Gables in Malvern for High afternoon Tea - and it is fabulous in every sense. The Gables is certainly a very elegant heritage building that has been become for many a must for special occasions. Thank...goodness it wasn’t pulled down years ago, unlike other beautiful homes around Melbourne, and replaced with a block of flats or uninspiring constructions. The gardens are a delight, and a wonderful place for weddings too. Anyway, it’s a beautiful place and a pleasure to sit in and enjoy all the scrumptious food that’s offered. A glass of champagne to begin with, any tea or coffee you want as well, the triple tier stack of * sandwiches - smoked salmon, or egg, or chicken - * hot food - goat’s cheese quiche or meat pie - * then fruit or plain scones with butter, jam and cream. Out in the foyer there’s a huge table of desserts - all small servings of fresh fruit, cakes, desserts and slices - such as vanilla slices, macaroons, chocolate mousse, tiramisu, red velvet cake, chocolate kisses, etc, etc, as well as cheeses, dried fruit, quince paste and crackers. How can one do justice to all that’s on offer???? We especially appreciated the lovely china that was on the table - that makes it all that more special. It is a lovely place for a special occasion or just to treat yourself!More

Had lunch today at The Gables in Malvern. We booked with friends for the Winter Roast Lunch and it was wonderful. There's something about a roast cooked perfectly that brings back fond memories of childhood Sunday lunches. The gables is a stunning classical venue and...was particularly warm and cozy today as the winter rain pelted down outside. We started with soup which was hearty and loaded with vegies and lentils. Then came the roast - Lamb and Pork with crackling (perfectly cooked) and a full range of roast vegies, gravy, apple sauce and even gnocchi. It is a serve yourself set-up so my plate was loaded. We enjoyed a lovely Pinot with the main, but others ordered a Rose and a Chardonnay. Just when we thought we could fit in another morsel they invited us to a table loaded with deserts - panna cotta, lemon tart, tiramisu, chocolate mousse and a generous selection of cheeses. The room was full with the happy chatter of contented diners, so looks like you're best to book. We'll certainly be back the next time I'm in the mood for a classic roast lunch.More

Lovely surrounds and gardens. Needed some soft piped music to add to the atmosphere Main food not 100% small pies too lumpy for size quiche tasted funny by many (maybe goat cheese used) Egg sandwiches strange taste and very little egg. Sweets great variety. Would...have been nice to have some hot desserts and cream available. Don't eat the chocolates they are off. For 65.00 ph could have afforded to give a free coffee (not on menu)More

Lunched here with friends & enjoyed the experience. I enjoyed the food but found the menu somewhat limited. The service was excellent & if you have a sweet tooth you will definitely enjoy yourself.

I enjoy saucing out older style buildings that offer morning tea , lunch etc. The Gables ticked all the boxes . A taxi from Melbourne CBD took aprox 15 minutes , but from the pictures on their web site , I knew our experience would...be worth the trip. As we turned into Finch Street , it certainly was an OMG moment. Beautiful trees lined the lane with The Gables sitting proudly . The building is magnificent , gardens beautifully attended too. Our lunch suited the establishment we were in and they are licensed. Beautiful light quich and salad we both enjoyed , and a charming sweet trolley for dessert. Charming experience, one of my highlights on our Melbourne holiday.More
