Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The restaurant is closed on Mondays as we were kindly notified by Tarraleah Estate, but pre-ordered dinners are available for delivery to rooms of guests. Chefs selection for a two course dinner and we can advise what we don't eat. The portable bain marie was...delivered and set up right on time for dinner. Lamb stew with rice for the meal and sticky date pudding for dessert, ice cream in the fridge. I had two helpings, my wife one, and still enough leftover for another person. Tasty and satisfying.More

We were staying on site with friends in our caravans. Decided not to cook on our second night as the pub was open. Such a great decision. Glowing fires warming up the restaurant bar area with great places to sit and have a drink before...dinner. Food choice was great and the slow cooked beef cheeks were to die for. Great, helpful friendly service from the barman with a great wine recommendation.More

We had dinner here, as we were staying on site. The room space is a large area with a bar. Nothing flashy. The menu was basic Australian but a reasonable selection. Our meal was available in about 30 minutes and was about "pub food" standard....In spite of it being a Bar, there was a choice of just two wines by the glass (a red and a white) so they obviously wanted to sell bottles! With a small wood fire only, the dining area was cool, and we couldn't wait to get out and back to our room.More

Both our meals were prepared and presented beautifully, and tasted first class. The service was great, the fires were roaring. We’ll be back!

We live close by and decided to give the dining a try. We were a little hesitant when we saw the limited selection on the menu, which aimed to give diners a wide variety with vegetarian and vegan options. I have to say, that our...hesitations were soon forgotten when we started to see the quality of the meals which were being brought out. The childrens meals were substantial compared to what you would normally see. We enjoyed the wallaby as an entree. It was cooked the way that game should be and the flavor on the plate was wonderful. When our mains came to the table, we all thoroughly enjoyed them. And the dessert!! We had the vanilla panacotta and it was delicious. The service was superb and very helpful. The decor has changed since the last time we were there (a couple of years ago now), and we marvelled at the gorgeous outside/inside area. It was so welcoming and seemed to be able to cater for a large variety of taste. Food pricing was what you would expect for the meals we enjoyed, and the prices at the bar were quite reasonable as well, which we found pleasantly suprising. We will be back and only wish we had visited earlier. What a gem.More

Had dinner tonight here. Ordered a hamburger and fish and chips, both were lovely. Fresh and well cooked. We had a crepe brûlée’ for desert and it was probably the best I have ever had. Drinks service could not do enough for us.

Some areas of the dining room were cool - seek a table near the heater. We four had varying meals but they were all good quality, nicely presented and not skimpy. The waitress was lovely.

Tarraleagh Tavern is by a caravan park in the old hydro town. Walk into a covered beer garden style area and right into the main area. Bar to the left, where you order your meal from a simple menu then choose your own table, either...to the right or back in the beer garden. There are no beers on tap but a basic selection of wines, soft drinks and bottled beer. They have their own lager brewed elsewhere. Very sweet and expensive at $8 a bottle. My wife chose a Roast veg salad ($10)and icecream and apple crumble ($15)to follow. I selected the 300gram "scotch fillet" ($35) that was to be served with a salad and fries (basic pub fare). My wife said though it was nice she was disappointed it was cold. The dessert came in a small ramekin with a small dollop of vanilla icecream on top. Her view at least it was hot. My meal was presented, salad to the side, fresh and crisp but no dressing, a pile of french fries with the steak on top, glazed in a jus with a small amount going into the fries. The steak was not a "Scotch Fillet" as claimed but a very tough, gristle edged piece of rump. It was cooked to my request and that was it. The meat was coarse and certainly not what I had ordered or claimed to be on the menu. This is my opinion of the food served, others may find it to their taste. The menu was overpriced, Fish n Chips $30, Chicken Parma fries and salad $25, Scotch fillet fries and salad $35, a Buddhist Salad $20, the latter was for VegetariansMore

While I loved staying in the gorgeous cottages here in Tarraleah unfortunately the only place to eat is the Highlander. I found them very rude. There was not one entree or main for vegetarians. There were only a few people in the restaurant yet the...chef couldn’t be bothered speaking to me even though he was in sight of me. He only spoke to the bar man. He made a sad effort of offering me a salad or a few vegetables and given the price list $28-$30 I wasn’t thrilled by that.More

I had a brown rice and veggie Buddha bowl which was delicious. We met some fellow travellers and spent the...evening chatting over a bottle of fine tassie wineMore

Only place in town, can get very busy. Food is awesome. Well worth dinner. Must book when busy. I requested some mash and grilled veggies. The chef was very accommodating but be sure to order your requests the previous day before dinning so the chef...has time to prepare.More

Our dinner was OK but wasnt the romantic high end that the branding implies. Im OK with that though, it was like an upscale pub. the interior decor ambience was nice. service was slow though, it took around an hour for our meal to come,...we nearly thought they forgot and chased it up. It didnt seem all that busy. their hairy cow branded pinot noir is nice.More
