Another busy neighbourhood that is a center of trade and commercial related sctivities is the famous and popular Royapettah. Apart from being known for its many tourist attractions, Royapettah is a favourite shopping and entertainment check in for all budget travelers. Popular for shops selling home fabrics, traditional sweets, furniture and house décor, it can be quite a delight for all those looking at packing in a range of quick shopping on a busy touristy day. For those seeking to take a break from a shopping agenda, visit the magnificent 150-year old Amir Mahal – one of the largest palaces in the city or chill at Amethyst, a nostalgically posh haven that's outrageously popular with expats and well-off Chennaiites for its creative menu and beautiful range of artefacts and jewellery.
You'll have to be there to feel the vibes. Its one of the oldest temple in the city, It'll definitely give you a good feeling once you visit the place. Check for the festivals and auspicious days if you want to avoid the crowd.

"Great Place To Shop"
reviewed 10 February 2020 by AnubhabArko
We went to shop few things. which included Tamil Traditional clothes, visited a large store Pothys, Which housed every thing we sought. days later I wanted to backpack and went to neighbouring store called Saravana.
Both the places, were extremely cheap, choice was wide and Staff behaviour was very good.
This place is currently under renovation so we could not get to go inside but was able to view from a distance, both MGR and Jayalalitha's is together and both are being reconstructed. Check with contacts in Chennai before planning for a visit.
university of Madras is one of the oldest university and proud got my postgraudation through this university. Is is located nearer to Marina beach and with vast area. Different departments, library etc are functioning here. I too worked as a part time employee, during my college days
Good food beautiful calm quiet location in a garden with a nice shop, service is a bit on the slow side but you can always get up and ask them to pay attention to you, food was very good and they have a nice selection, we came back twice in two days.
This place is in a small lane, from outside looks very ordinary. But once you get inside, sheer number of eaters will give you a feeling that its a good eatery. My regular visit if I am in Chennai. Samosas, Jilebi and lassi are my pick. Very busy at most times, but no compromise on quality or taste. Very economical and just tasty food. You can be sure of food hygiene. Nothing stays in the tray, freshly made and gone.
Excellent service, friendly atmosphere. No delays in getting what you want. Room service is excellent very clean. Even in this tough time every request was made without any hesitation.
Room is kept clean and provided with clean towels and sheets.

The basic rooms are rather run down and in need of refurbishment, however they are large and the bathrooms are very spacious. The age of the furniture and fixtures is reflected in the discount offered.
