The name is "Staalplastiek" but it is absolutely not plastic. The artwork looks more like piled up iron beams. It was very famous sculpture of André Volten. In the 60's he made sculpture in the I, H or T shaped profile of iron (beams) or steel. You will find his work at some other places in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands...
This statue reminds of the farmer's families who lost their livelihood due to Amsterdam's expansions, generations of farmers were disowned, bought out, otherwise removed so the city could keep building on their lands.

Taxi2airport was waiting for us on arrival. I booked this with TripAdvisor. Booking was easy. Confirmation and taxi details send. Got out of the airport in Antigua and they came and find us. The driver Anthony John gave us history of the country and landmarks as we were driven to hotel.

The food was very good, atmosphere too. Staff was hard to get to our table, and we had to wait quite long to pay etc. But service was good, food was tasty, and they had amazing vegetarian options, and good wine.
I came for a birthday lunch. Really nice shakshuka salad. Smmall but beautifully prepared in a cast iron mmini pan. Wonderfully warmm with perfect cooked egg, beans, tommato sauce, feta, koriander, olives(? Mmaybe I mmissed the olives?) A few pieces of bread on the side. Taste wonderful and not over filling. At €8 a reasonable price for what was prepared....
If you are in the area, maybe staying at the Holiday Inn Express, this is a perfect little coffee shop that is right behind the hotel/next to the train station. Fresh salads, fresh juices and smoothies, and delicious bakery.

Staying at the Mercure but drawn downstairs by the smell of woodsmoke. Food great so we ate three nights out of four. Staff friendly and informative as it was our first visit to Amsterdam, so lots of suggestions. I loved the pokey bowls as I am not a meat eater as such but my companions had good steaks and burgers.
There's a metro and tram station near by. You can travel to the hotspots without a problem.
The room was comfortable and even had a kitchen with everything you need. The bathroom is clean.
Reception staff is friendly and helps anytime you need them.
PS the hotel smells amazing :)
Very nice hotel in a quiet suberb of Amsterdam.
There is a tram station next to the hotel so you can go everywhere without car.
The rooms are warm and clean and the staff is very friendly.
If you want a peaceful hotel, that's the place.
We arrived at the hotel and parked our car which was ideal to allow us to go into Amsterdam for a few hours. We returned in the afternoon and looked around the very fashionable lounge area prior to checking in. The room was spacious, bed very comfortable with storage space and a very nice bathroom and shower. The hotel was...
Good connection to city centre and airport, clean hotel and nice staff!
Additionally you can request (paid) late check-out and different breakfast options.
Too bad that the coupons for not needing to clean the room everyday cannot be used for breakfast.
This hotel is conveniently situated right next to Sloterdijk Station. It is about 5 minutes walk. The hotel reception is very friendly and welcoming, she recommended us places to visit. Rooms are clean and simple. There is a small supermarket just downstairs if you need a grocery run. Downtown is just a few train stops away, so you can basically...
