The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
It was sobering to see such a long section of the actual Berlin Wall, and contemplate what the German people went through during that time. There were info boards about the history with Poland and it was so much info, to be honest it went right over my head. We went here in August 2019 as part of "Alla Tours"...

Lively area with crowds of people (at least there were in Aug 2019 when I visited!). It was great to feel the history going through the gate. I went as part of "Alla Tours" all day tour of Berlin from our cruise ship's one day stop in Warnemunde port.
One of the most famous museums in Berlin, if not the world.
Amazingly set out with big hallways and rooms displaying the different cultures from Islam. Egyptian and Roman period.
Well worth a visit when in Berlin and took a good hour and a half inside the different showrooms.
I'm glad I included this museum on my trip top Berlin....
This lovely restaurant serves North Iraq cuisine and has a great atmosphere and friendly staff. We had the mixed plate which was a starter, but served as a main meal for two in our case. We had the Paklava for desert which is a small sweet cake like Greek Baklava. All the food was delicious and excellent quality. Prices were...
I was in need of a good breakfast before I began exploring the wonders of Berlin and I visited here as it was very close to U-bahn at Friedrichstrasse. The choice was good, the place was really clean and fresh...and the staff were friendly and helpful (speaking slightly slower for me as my German isn't great). I ended up choosing...
My Husband and I were staying in the Adlon Kempinksi, so we thought we just had to try the two Michelin star, on-site restaurant. We booked a couple of weeks in advance and managed to get a reservation on our first evening – however this seemed to be a bit of a luck as most dates were unavailable around this...
Our family of four had dinner at Tor189 last Saturday. We were celebrating a significant birthday within the family. The food was delicious, in particular the octopus gets high marks and also the lamb. We loved the fusion of flavours. Very relaxed atmosphere too. Would revisit and also recommend to friends.
Casa Camper is a fantastic design hotel in a great location in central Berlin. Staff super friendly and helpful. Neighborhood is full of cool boutiques and stylish brand names. I loved the lounge on the 7th floor and would definitely stay here again next time i'm in Berlin.
Stopping at the Gorki Apartments in Berlin was great. Well appointed apartment and great location for getting around and easy for the Tour Bus. Everything you need and the bed was comfortable and clean.
loved the hotel. great room not huge but had everything you could possibly need.
the location is about 15/20 minutes walk from centre but prices are very reasonable. there are several restaurants; and coffee shops close by.
Very good central location for a short stay in Berlin. A little more choice of hot food at breakfast would be appreciated by guests. Perhaps the furnishings in rooms could be updated as well. Overall, a fantastic location from which to see Berlin.
So I had booked 5 days to stay at this hotel starting on 12 March. While I was in flight, Trump announced restrictions on getting into the US, where I live. As a result, I had to book a flight back on the same plane. Going to Berlin was a dream vacation for me and I was looking forward to...
