From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
"Take a day if you want, or just go early and see the jewels"
reviewed yesterday by LorMcLor
We visited the Tower of London twice because we didn't know it was part of a tour we were doing and we had purchased tickets for a different day already. It's a good thing we did. By the time we arrived with the tour, the line to see the Crown Jewels was more than 2 hours long. We spent that...
The interior of this cathedral is truly beautiful. You must make the trek up to the dome and then further up to the top of the dome. Can't believe they let the general public do this, the view is terrific.
My daughter and I were very disappointed because the day we went was rainy and foggy and we couldn't see anything outside. However, we did have a pleasant walk around the inside, sat and relaxed and enjoyed each other's company. I'd definitely go back because it's free and the views are supposed to be fantastic.
This is the only place in London I could find the theater schedule and map leaflet.
The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to provide me with all the information I needed to plan my theater visits. This is a must stop for current tourist information.
We had just done the Tower of London and had a great meal at Liberty Bounds. St Dunstan was just a few minutes away and its a great spot to visit. Being free makes it an easy choice. The property is well maintained as a garden. It is popular, so we were one of probably 10-15 groups there to enjoy...
A first time here for me, very conveniently close to Liverpool Street and will definitely be back. Our host was extremely knowledgeable on wine (of course) and very pleasant too. It helped that it was not busy which on a Friday lunchtime was a pleasant surprise! The flight of wine tasting was an absolute delight, as was the additional taster,...
A review of the takeaway order - not the physical place.
Food arrived super quickly and arrived hot. Descriptions of food could be better, I think I ordered the wrong thing, but it was very nice and came with some sides. Portion size not huge (despite ordering large) but that doesn't matter. Would choose again.
This place is absolutely amazing. Food, service, value for money all 10/10. We were recommended the All in all dish by the waiter, only after listening to what we liked. This game with 4 chops each. All amazing cooked and the flavour was out of this world. Defo try the sweet potato to!
Another thing to try is the pigs...
This was my first time staying with M By Montcalm and it was lovely. Peter greeted me upon entry and took my bag right away. Fenna checked me in with a smile which was great. Peter took my bag all the way to my room and made sure I knew how everything worked. The room was very clean, very spacious...

Amazing Hotel. Really comfortable, clean, super breakfast and really welcoming team.
Wonderful views from the 7th floor roof terrece resturant / bar. Perfect central location near to the river.Good use of technology in the room.
Four Seasons excellence at a boutique scale; rooms and public areas exquisite and you never feel like an ice cube in a tray. Location ultra convenient to tube, sight-seeing and running. Staff up to the usual 4S snuff.
Booked to stay at the South Place Hotel for 2 weeks for business nearby but unfortunately the Covid-19 situation meant I had to leave early to return to my home country.
Nonethelss, my short stay was very enjoyable, not just because the hotel is a little gem tucked away in the heart of the city, but also because the staff...
Had a great weekend staying Apex London Wall. Very friendly staff and great rooms. Our room was clean and massive for a London hotel. Glass of champagne on arrival was welcome surprise along with £10 voucher for bar.
