We had the unfortunate 'pleasure' of staying at this 'resort for two nights. At no point was it EVER mentioned that the resort was undergoing major sand bag works. Thanks, we are currently building our own development, the last thing we needed was to 'relax' at another building

Response from GKIHideaway, Front Office Manager at Great Keppel Island Hideaway
Responded 13 Jul 2019
Hi Kerry. Thank you for reviewing your holiday and we are genuinely disappointed that it was not a pleasant time for you. We encourage our guests to research their destination before coming as we make a very strong point that it is basic 3 star accommodation. I give no excuses if your room was not clean, tidy and presentable and comfortable as this is our minimum expectation for you. Kerry to answer a few of your queries for our other travellers: We do have free WIFI available for guests but due to the lack of data available on the Island is slightly limited and therefore the signal strength only allows WIFI in the front area, including all of the bistro/bar, front lawns and on the verandahs around reception. We repeatedly ask the Telco to do an upgrade on the island but it is not seen as a priority issue. The Hideaway is also totally free of TVs except for our bar/bistro area. Families love coming to Keppel and enjoying quality family time with the limited WIFI and no TV. We don't advertise TVs in our rooms. We have on occassion had to do machinery work on the beach whilst guests are in house. This is on a rare occassion as mostly the sand pumping is done well away from anyone's accommodation. There are many parts of the old and closed GKI resort including old machinery, sheds etc that you sometimes pass when heading into the middle of the island. As just one of the small operators on the island we are not able to manage everything. At times we do manage to put some old machinery on our monthly barge at our expense for the old resort. Apologies that we were doing some refreshing of the Hideaway during your stay. Winter time is a bit quieter and we try to do painting and general maintenance at this time. We would certainly hope that it doesn't impact our guests comfort. There is a small section of our team that are world travellers. They work 5 hours per day. The majority of our team are very hard working locals (including quite a few local young school leavers - employing our locals). Recycling is done by the Hideaway on Great Keppel Island. We encourage our guests to use the correct bins for our rubbish, but also the rubbish is sorted by the maintenance team. Kerry I have taken your comments re the rooms to our maintenance and housekeeping teams. The latest repainting and maintenance done during winter has corrected most of the issues raised. Thank you again for your time. Happy travels and we hope at your next visit you will continue to see the many and varied improvements underway including the beautification of our new sand bag revetment wall. Kind regards Denise
