- Andy HRelbia, Australia40 contributionsVisit with teenage familyMorning tour with family. The property is beautifully kept, all original furnishings and as the Lyons family left it. Our tour guide was great - he was very knowledgeable and respectfully told the story of Joseph Lyons and his family. Our only criticism of the whole visit would be that the gardens of the property are currently a bit unloved and were not planted as the Lyons family had them - still nice to walk in, but would be fantastic if they could be planted sympathetically. Overall, a very enjoyable visit for our family and would highly recommend.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 9 January 2024
- Russell B1 contributionHome Hill is a wonderful trove of information surrounding two incredible Australians, Joseph and Dame Enid Lyons. The home of Dame Enid Lyons and her husband, the 10th Prime Minister of Australia, is amazing and beautiful. Enid herself decorated and designed her home and became the first female minister in Australia. This is a treasure of information, provided by a dedicated guide, Sue. Well worth enjoying your time here.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 18 January 2024
- Gaylene19Ulverstone, Australia105 contributionsMargaret was extremely informative and friendly. It was a very enjoyable, informative visit there today, and Margaret was so very knowledgeable, especially as she was a friend to the Lyons. What a gorgeous home it was. The stories were really the "star" of the visit, feeling like I "know" the family more. Thanks so much Margaret - what a gem you are.Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 24 January 2024
- Cheryl S1 contributionStepping back in timeOur guided visit to Home Hill was welcoming, fascinating and informative. We truly felt like guests, stepping back into the mid 1900s to visit the family home of a remarkable couple, who contributed so richly to Australian politics and our global identity. We loved it!Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 February 2024
- 324garyBrisbane, Australia6 contributionsMore than politicsAn immaculate kept home that comes to life when you hear the interesting tales of Dame Enid and Joseph Lyons and their family of 12. There’s politics, but much more, Dame Enid had many talents. Well worth a visit.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 February 2024
- Vanessa S31 contributionsAn excellent guided tourWe thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Hill Home. Even though we know very little about Australian politics, the history of the house and the story of the family was fascinating. Our guide was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable and took time to answer all of our questions. This is a definite must see when in Tasmania.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 March 2024
- Lyn GLakes Entrance, Australia3 contributionsGlimpse behind the public life of a Prime Minister and his familyWe enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the conifer studded acreage prior to our tour of the house. The gardens are tended by volunteers who were very friendly. Derek showed us through the impressive, eclectic Lyons' home, Dame Enid was an amazing homemaker, partner and woman; especially in her era. Highly recommend stopping off and doing a tour and learning about this couple and their lives outside Politics in this living museum and family home. We appreciated that Derek brought this to life for us.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 March 2024
- KBofLBLittleborough, United Kingdom555 contributionsA house and a homeThis is a single storey but extensive house built for Joseph Lyons, the only Tasmanian to date who has become Prime Minister of Australia. Visiting is by guided tour only. It is a tribute to our guides Sue and Diann that the guided tour overran its time slot as they enthusiastically explained the history of the house and the changes made to it over the years and pointed out many significant items from his premiership. The house is on the outskirts of the town but only a short distance from it. For anyone who is in the area it is well worth visiting.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 March 2024
- Steve D1 contributionA look into the Tasmanian lifestyle of Dame Enid Lions, her husband Joseph and how she made her house a home on the hilHome Hill is a wonderful look into the home of Joseph and Dame Enid Lyons. Joseph was the only Tasmanian who became Prime Minister of Australia and who also died in office after seven years between 1932 to 1939. Dame Enid was a resourceful woman who became a member of Parliament in her own right, had 12 children and survived her late husband by more than 40years.. Our guide Sue was very knowledgeable and friendly and certainly showed us how much she loved talking about the house and the resourcefulness of Dame Enid. The tour went for about an hour and half but went quickly.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 April 2024
- Valerie KHobart, Australia2 contributionsWonderful experienceWe were travelling with friends and on my suggestion we visited Home Hill. Although it was my third visit, I still learnt another new fact about the life of Joseph Lyons. It is such a beautiful old home with a wonderfully warm and welcoming feeling. I don't think I'll ever tire of visiting. Our friends also agreed it was lovely and definitely worth viewing and listening to the history.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 4 May 2024
